I need to know what and if anything can be done to repair loose bearings on the drive side of a 98 S1 rear wheel. I can remove the outer one and inner one is loose also, I'm kicking myself in the ass right now because St. Paul Harley just had a nuke blue one listed on flea-bay just awhile back, And now it's gone. A good machinist can fix your wheel ... "BUT" if you continue to run your drive belt too tight OR over tightening the axle nut tighter than TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS the same thing will happen again ... At one point in it's life it must have been run tight, I purchased the bike 2 1/2 years ago and it had 21,000 miles and I am the third owner. The bike was gone through when I got it and the belt was fine, But thank you for warning me. Also thanks for the replies guy's, Does anyone know of somebody in the Los Angeles area that has done this repair? | ||

In my shop it would run about $60 a side,but you're in LA so I'd guess about $120 on up. Give Al a call, he might be able to recommend a shop near you. | ||

Chuck - I got that wheel, looks nice! I did some searching in the Knowledge Vault and found a place called Wheel Works (wheel-works.com) a member had his wheel sleeved there with good results. John | ||

Chuck, go see Gary at Wheel Works in Garden Grove. His shop machined and installed a stainless sleeve on the rear wheel of my S1. It works perfect now. Tell him "Duke" sent ya. LOL, Triman. That must've been my post in the KV. | ||

Thanks Sparky, I just called yesterday and would ya guess who I talked to? Gary, LOL he said they can do it for $75.00 plus another $15.00 if I want him to install the bearings. Good to hear from ya Sparky it was fun riding up to Newcomb's Ranch with you and the guys, It was really nice getting to meet Erik too. Me and Tim just had new tires put on the S1's and thats when I found out they were loose, First time I have ever had the wheel off. Take care, Chuck. | ||

Picked up the wheel today, Looks like they did a great job, Also had them install the bearings too. Was told it will be better than new, LOL. But now it's raining, Shucks! Thanks for all the info guys. | ||

Remember you must adjust the DRIVE BELT CORRECTLY or you will be back with a bad wheel bearing again ... DRIVE BELT ADJUSTMENT Class 101 available upon request, just PM me ... |
