I noticed my tach will sometimes light up when I rev the bike to like. 5 - 6 grand in neutral and or clutch in? This is long before redline, any reason for this to happen? |

I remember reading that it lights up to let you know not to rev it up really high with no load on the motor. You will notice that when you first start the bike, if you rev it up to 3k or higher, it will light up, the warmer the motor gets, the high you can rev it w/out the tach needle lighting up. |

It means stop being a damn squid. The high revs aren't good for a cold and/or unloaded motor, hence the needle lighting up. |

Haha well said and good to know. I get the high rev's with cold motor but never heard about the unloaded part. My bike was real warm and still did it. I wasn't moving so that explains it. |

Yes, I noticed the same thing. If you exceed 5K RPM in neutral, it lights up! No lights if in gear. |

Tonight I arrived at friends place after some traffic shut her down for 10 minutes and when I started it up and the battery light stayed on and then went off. The engine light went on and eventually the sys voltage message, 11.0 volts! I kept the RPM's up waiting for it to go away and that's when I just noticed the tach needle getting brighter when I revved it. new stator 4,000 miles ago and third sys voltage message in the last few months. heat soak from 10 minute stop and then taking off? I love this bike, just wish it could make me feel less paranoid. |

I WISH mine would!! It would be so nice to have a programmable shift light. It would he a hell of a lot more useful than the way it works right now! |

Bassettkyle You think that is cool, wait until your riding your motorcycle and the light starts coming on while powering through first gear... You'll be like did I just see that dam light, and then you'll be like is something is going on with my charging system a couple of rides later... I wouldn't trade the bike for any other bike still. |

Pizza: Why are you looking at your gauges for a shift light? Don't you ride track? |

dangit my bike is almost COMPLETELY track these days!!! i really dont care one way or the other, because i KNOW where my shift points are for each track i ride regularly, for each gear, and i have a good idea of how to ride perfectly in the bikes natural power band. ...but if they went through the trouble of having a shift light in the FIRST place, they should at least allow the end user to adjust it to their likings. suzuki's aprilia's ducati's(that also use magnet marnelli instrument clusters like our bikes) have shift lights that appear to be much more useful than our stupid lit tach needle at 4500rpm with no load, and 10000rpm under load. me just this monday!!

Who cares if the R's shift light isn't programmable, you can't see it during the day. The only ones worth anything are bright as hell and even then it can be hard to catch them in your peripheral vision. I always thought a great place for the shift light was on the inside edge of the upper fairing so it's literally right in front your face. |

If you have tunerpro software you can set it how you want it, only cost is the cable, all software is available for free. In my EB R ECM it was set to 12000 rpm or and therefore did nothing. |
