My battery was dead so I tried a battery charger/booster. Somehow I fried something it seems. I know blow the 30amp fuse whenever the battery is hooked up. If I separate the plug on the heavy red/black wires on the right side of the tail section the fuse holds fine. If I check the red terminal on the female side of the plug it shows shorted. Where does that red/black wire go? I can't seem to find where it ends up. Any help is appreciated. Murf |

Does anyone have any idea where the black/red heavy wires go that plug together on the right side of the tail section ('09 1125CR)? Or where there might be a wiring diagram? Thanks, Murf |

Murf, I have the electrical diagnostics manual at home. I am sure it has the schematics, but I am at work now (Germany). If nobody has been able to help you out before that, I'll take a look when I get home. G |

Ok, looks like based on the 30A fuse that is blowing and the red/black wire I think you are referring to, the problem is likely either the "key relay" or "ignition switch", possibly both. I will keep looking thru the book, but tomorrow I will take the book with me and scan and email you 2 pages of the schematic that should help. I have to do that at work, as I don't have a scanner at home. |

Ok, I need you to clarify. When you say the "plug on the heavy red/black wires on the right side of the tail section", do you mean the wire is red and black, or are you talking about the plug that has 2 wires going into a single plug, 1 red wire and 1 black wire? If you are talking about 1 red and 1 black wire going into a plug with no other wires, it is likely the vlotage regulator, as that is where those 2 wires go after the plug. At first I thought you were referring to a red/black combination wire, which does exist, but not on that connector. (Message edited by crazyhawk99 on October 13, 2010) |

Sorry I was vague. It is a red wire running with a black wire with the locking plug on the right side of the tail section. They are pretty heavy wires, not cable heavy but fairly thick. Thanks, Murf |

Ok Murf. At least now I am sure which connector you are referring to. According to the wiring diagram, that is plug #77 and it goes straight to the voltage regulator. If I had to bet, I would put my money on the voltage regulator being shorted to ground. Let me know if I can help at all any further. Greg |

Thanks for your help. Does anyone know how to test the regulator? Murf |

Murf, I have scanned the pages in the electrical diagnostics manual that cover the voltage regulator and stator tests. The voltage regulator is in the system between the battery and stator. My bet is when you jumped the battery, the current was excessive and fried the voltage regulator before blowing the 30A fuse. Let me know your email address and I will email you the scanned pages. If the VR is bad, you can probably pick up a used one from someone parting their bike out, fairly cheap. Not sure if the 2008 R is the same as the 09 CR, but I would imagine it is. |

Man, I owe you a pint next time I'm in Germany (don't hold your breath though)! murfalert@yahoo.com On another note, a nice simple question, where's the ecm on these things? I just bought it from an insurance auction and haven't run across it yet. It needs a muffler since the prior owner removed it and I want to see if it has the stock ecm before I buy a muffler. Thanks- again, Murf |

Email with attachment sent Murf. The ECM is inside the left radiator pod cover. Takes about 5 mins to get to. Easy stuff. I'll take that beer next time you are in Germany or I am in AL. |
