I have a '98 S3T with 73K miles on it. Now that I have a '09 XP, the S3 sits occasionally. I had the forks serviced and resealed at 60K just because it had never been done. When it sat for 2 months, about 6 months later, the left fork leg leaked oil on my floor. I took it back to the guy who did it, and he redid it for free. He also assured me that he used genuine Buell parts. A year later it sat for another couple months, and all of a sudden, it leaked out again. Anyone else have this? | ||

Had trouble with my right fork tube seal after replacement .... "i" took some DOT 3 brake fluid and worked it around the seal which causes the seal to swell up and no leak ... | ||

If I get the seal to swell back up, how do I refill it with oil? | ||

Recently, my right leg started leaking bad enough to mess up my brake. I tried the film trick but it was no good. had it rebuilt and saw the junk parts were reeeeally junk! the steel reinforcement inside the seal had begun to corrode and swell. the swelling distorted everything and it leaked. the good side was almost as bad too. salt sucks  | ||

This is where the FACTORY SERVICE MANUAL and PARTS BOOK for your YEAR/MODEL comes into play ... Would be glade to sent you the "INFO" on my front forks which are the same as your 1998(have a 1997 and the forks did not get an up-date'd until 1999) ...
