Here's the deal, I have a 2000 x1. I had a tough time getting it started to the point where it back fired through the intake. Then it wouldn't idle, once I got it warmed it would idle ok. But when I took it out for a ride once I hit three grand it had a dead spot. Once it passed four grand it ran great. Then when I slowed it stalled, took a while to start again wouldn't idle again. What the hell is going on? |

First and easiest things to check would be intake seals. If you have the software, do a TPS reset and check the error codes. Actually, if you DON'T have the software, you can still check the error codes by jumping the two left prongs in the ECM connection.(look up the procedure to be sure you do it right) If none of the electronic stuff is failing, it's probably an intake leak. Another possible but rare issue is a broken throttle butterfly. I saw that one in the X1 files. |

I replaced the intake seals, haven't been able to do a TPS reset, not tripping any codes, and the butterfly looks fine. I now can't even get it to start at all. Not getting any spark and its questionable if I'm getting fuel either. I replaced the coil and still nothing. Fuel pump primes like it always did. Pulled the plugs they were soaked. I cleaned them and left them out to check spark... none. I have since put them back in and tried a few times to start it and then pulled them back out and the are completely dry still. Chased the wires and couldn't find any short, and all my fuses are good. I'm so frustrated with this bike I keep buying parts and it just keeps getting worse. Any help would be greatly appreciated cause I got no ideas. |

New plugs, once a fuelie tuber wet fouls a set their done 90% of the time. The 3-4 grand dead spot is quite common on early FI tubers, you need a remapped stock ecm or the race ecm. |

Check the cam position sensor too. Tells the ECM to supply spark and fuel. (Message edited by two_seasons on April 09, 2011) |

The plugs were brand new this year, maybe 1/2 mile on em, I have the race ECM and I'll have to check the cps in the morning. I'll check the bank angle sensor too just cause I think that that also cuts spark and fuel both. Thanks for the advice and I'll keep y'all posted. |

Well I checked the sensors and they seem alright, so I decided to run through things again. I pulled the plugs and cranked it over and to my surprise I do have spark although very weak. So then I pulled the injectors and they are not spraying at all. Urgh! What can this be now? It's a new battery, but it is very badly drained from all this trying to start. I've had to resort to jumping it off of my car (not while running), and even then it doesn't have much power turning it over. Should probably put the battery on a trickle charger. Any new ideas? |

I'd get a real battery charger, something that'll charge around 2 amps. A trickle charger basically floats a battery above the sulfation level and won't really put the required amount of amp-hour charge back into it. |

Well now I feel retarded. I had the battery charged and it started to sputter then drenched the plugs with fuel. So I took them out and cleaned them up. The one wasn't getting much spark, swaped them around and it was definately that plug. Put the old ones in and started right up. It even idled. I'll take it out tomorrow and see if it still has the dead spot. Also I'll get a TPS reset. Thanks for all the help and I'll be on here if it still has issues. |
