So, I changed my rear brake pads this past weekend and broke one of the metal retaining springs in the process. I'm replacing my stock pads with EBC pads, which unfortunately do not come with new springs. I called the local HD dealer and found out that the only way to get a news spring is to purchase a set of OEM pads. Does anyone who has replaced their rears pads with OEM pads have an extra spring that they wouldn't mind selling me? I'd greatly appreciate it. Ryan | ||

That spring is like unobtanium. I actually bought a new set of rear brake pads this weekend myself because the springs broke off one of the pads on my old ones! Those springs suck, too. The pad is kind of loose and "rattly" even though it's held on well enough. | ||

Yeah, tell me about it. I put everything back together without the spring, and it seems to stay in place pretty well without it. I'd like to get it put back together right to be sure though. My fingers are crossed that someone on here has an extra one sitting around  | ||

I'd not run the bike without the retaining spring. Man, if that pad snagged and somehow got caught up in the rotor, turned sideways, etc, it could be nasty. I'd rather run without pads, esp since it's a rear and not necessary anyway. | ||

I hear you and will certainly consider that. Whenever I put it all back together I tried pushing the pad around to see where all it could move and it didn't look like it could come out. The rotor and caliper held it in place pretty well, but I'll take a look at it again. Thanks for your input. | ||

Do you mean the little wire loop on the back of the pads? I kept my last set of take-offs because they were so evenly thin- 1/2mm all the way around, BOTH pads. Never seen such even wear in my life..... Anyway, I should be able to hook you up with one or two, PM me your address, I'm off today with stomach virus. Zack | ||

Yes, the little metal "W" or "M" looking piece which holds the pad in the caliper. I'll send you a PM now. | ||

What we really need is a source of them. The retaining clips wear through long before the pads do. | ||

I was wondering about that myself since I have the wheel off for bearing service. I guess I'll be getting some OEM pads now  | ||
