I think people are still all wrapped up in this idea that Erik just can't live unless he has a motor company producing street legal bikes for the masses. This guy is about racing. And doing it his own way, better than anyone else does it. The way I read the story, that's why he built his first bike. To go racing. Buell just evolved into a motor company. He's now doing exactly what he set out to do. The 1190RS is being released so he can go racing. I don't think he cares if it's massed produced. Big numbers are just headaches that get in the way of track days. As long as he can feed his family and take care of his people, he's going racing. Not hooking up with some giant corporation or risking everything just so I can have a chance to buy a bike. He'll produce big numbers when he decides to go after Rossi.
And of course, I may be full of crap. |

I am far from wealthy and I am seriously considering adding an1190rs to my collection. Paying for it is pretty straight forward. Sell the Heritage Softtail, skip Bonneville next year and come up with $8,000 cash and I am at $25,000 by June. My guess is that most of the customers won't be much different. I am used to finding ways to pay for my hobbies. Just re-orient priorities and avoid wife and children.
I currently still have the FBRAT ULY and an 08 1125R. RS will fit well into retirement plans to obtain 200mph racing license at Bonneville. Time will be available when I retire in just less than two years. Time is always the most precious thing and the hardest to arrange.
Cash seems easier to obtain for me. |

The price will be inversely proportional to the production numbers. If they make 100-200 bikes, the price is likely to be in the $40,000 - $50,000 range.
Are there 100-200 people who can afford a $40,000 - $50,000 bike?
Sure. Ducati sold at least 3000 of the 1098R's.
As they increase production, the price will come down.
Obviously, for our selfish interests, we'd like to see a price in the $15,000 range, but, barring some sort of miracle, there's just no way I can see that happening in 2011. They'd probably have to be in the ballpark of 5,000 bikes to be in that sort of price range. Even if they could somehow go from making 0 bikes to 5000 in a year, how could they distribute and sell all those bikes?
You gotta walk before you can run and 2011 is almost certainly going to be a walking year.
The good news is: Once they're producing bikes it's just going to get easier. Cash will be coming in the door. Equipment can be bought, people can be hired, dealer networks can be established, etc. etc. etc. and eventually we'll be there. |

may be it is just me but i always figured that he tryed to make an American sport that kicked ass and was affordable so that the working man could have fun to i know that the end game is to be at the track i can hope and dream and may be in 5 or 6 years i will be able to get one in my house my family is first and the bike stuff is well in the shop and the dog is out side .....i sill say get some Eric i would love to see more wins on the track

I have to agree with Elvis the price will probably be 40-50k with such low volume. Its a start for Erik Buell Racing and it appears he will go racing next year (which will be great for the series). |

I don't believe Mr. Buell is not in it to make $ I think the price will be more feasible than most people think... I wonder if they would take my harley and 1125r race bike for trade??  |

I think a lot of the 44k price tag is because the 1190 was pretty much still a prototype race bike. The cost is in the Blueprinting and conversion to 1190, Chain conversion swingarm and all the other fabrication of making less than a dozen of them.
When you get a contract with a radiator company to buy over a 100 of a certain part, the price goes down. The base(cheapest model) will probably have more emphasis on the "S" with personalization options of adding more "R" parts and details like CNC Porting the heads.

I don't understand how it could cost 50k. it's 45k in pure race trim. street form will be cheaper and the quantity will be higher than it is now. Price will be high but not 50k. But then again, what do I know? I'm no cunstruction worker.. |

I have to say that to us peasants out here it doesn't much matter what it costs. A whole bunch of us won't be able to afford one right away anyway even if it isn't too much (too many 1125's to pay off). But I can't wait to see what is coming next. And I sure am having fun with with these in the meantime. LJM |

Ljm, I agree. I received an email from Erik Buell Racing that told me the price would not be in my ballpark (peasant...lol). The fact that the model starts life as a 44k bike doesn't help. Adding additional muffler, lights, switchgear etc but leaving the high hp configuration and top shelf parts practically guarantees an over 40k pricetag.
After mulling this over for several days since the teaser release I have my head around the concept should it come to fruition as stated. If is is released at 90% spec to the race bike it will be enormously fast and furious. The spec of the race version puts it on par with the best AMA racebikes out there.
The "peasant" in me seriously pushing for a new or newer bike next year wishes that we could get a street version of the 1125r which could easily sell for under 20k (one would think)instead of 1190Rs unobtanium best guess pricing.

And I think too that one of the most exciting parts is that the "brand" or the family line of these bikes is continuing. That means that there will be continuing interest in them and that can only be good for those of us with older ones in the garage as well. |
