I have had problems all summer with the bike. I have taken it in to the Harley dealership 4 times with each time having been told the problem is fixed. They have swapped out wires and reset TPS. The bike rides well for about 30-40 minutes and then at about 3k-4k rpm the bike "coughs" rpms go really low and then the bike dies. It wont turn back on but do what you see in the video. After a couple of hours, I got back and the engine light turns off and the bike turns back on. I would assume its an overheating issue but the fan does turn on and dont know how to check that or really what to do.

As you can tell, I am really really new to motorcycles and bought the bike in order not to have "issues." The bike is a 2008 with 3,400 miles on it. Unfortunately it's out of warranty.

Engine light stays on when run off or on?

That is a faulty ground issue.

Most likely suspect:

Look for the wiring that runs under the seat. It's grounding against the frame. Only a problem when you're on the bike.

Probably takes about half an hour to settle the weight and really push against the frame and ground you out.

Engine light is off when I am on the bike and running it. I have turned the bike on, let it run for about 20 minutes then rev the bike to 3-4 rmp and the rpms start to go down and if I keep reeving it at a constant 3-4k rpms, it dies.

On video, you show switch in run position then switch to not run. In both positions, without the engine running, the engine light is blinking.

Am I seeing that correctly?

If so, that's the condition I'm talking about.

honestley I think you have a fuel pump issue there it sounds like it's seizing up or something.

Or pump cycle is being initiated with each start cycle as indicated by the engine light. The start cycle is not completed so it repeats.

I would think that the pump would be after the light, that is, the light would behave normally and a faulty pump would be surging.

Next time it's flashing away, wiggle as much of the harness as you can. Loosen the seat.

I went through this on the 'bolt. I've read this about the XB. If you run a search, I'm pretty sure you'll find pics that show the suspect wire.

By the way, it's never out of warranty if you reported the problem inside the warranty period and they failed to fix it.

It's a hassle but they haven't fixed it.

Pepp, the most important question for you here is, did you really start your bike and let it idle (not ride it) for 20 minutes???? That's what I'm reading in your second post. If this is the case, us buellers are going to have to catch you up to speed air-cooled engines and skip-spark mode.

Good call, Kreuger, which would make the second scenario a different one than the first.
