Curtyd: I'll believe everything about a shortage of 9's. I've checked all over New England myself, and I talked to a dealer who tried his damnedest to find me a 9R (03 or 04) that he could sell to me and he came up with 3 bikes. The one I'm already looking at, one in Connecticut, and one in Maine. He had nothing to gain by telling me there practically no 9R's to be found at dealers in New England. I've also read here and a few other places that Buell stopped taking orders for 04 9's a while ago, so what's out there is all that will be out there.

Cross post from buelletin board for those of you that don't go there:

Called the guy today, told him we had a couple problems, then told him about the warranty thing and that I think I should be getting one, and that I shouldn't have to pay for the extended warranty. He put me on hold for a bit, then came back on and said that he can't do anything about the warranty today because his sales manager was in, but registering the warranties on demo bikes is the way they do things with all their demo bikes. He understood where I was coming from, but he also said "what about the other side of the story? what happens if a bike breaks down while on a demo ride, and we don't have it under warranty? we're going to have to pay out of pocket for it." To that, I told him that the impression I got from other dealers was the H-D covered demo bikes for the dealership SPECIFICALLY so that they can sell the demo bikes to people with a full warranty. He said he didn't know about that, and he'd have to check tomorrow.

The next problem was the $8500 they want even without the warranty. I explained to him that book value was only $7500 (KBB), and he tried to mention the $900 worth of stuff on it. To that, I told him that my credit union would only give me half the value of that stuff because it's not brand new off the shelf, it's used. So that brings the grand total to $7950, which also happens to be the NADA value of the bike. I failed to mention to him that it was the NADA value. He told me he had to run it by his sales manager, but he really didn't think she'd go for it. I think he was just trying to get me to cave and offer them a little more money, but I stood my ground and told him $7950 is the most I the credit union thinks the bike is worth, and I completely agree with them, so check w/ the sales manager and get back to me.

After that he tried to tell me that they never sell their bikes at MSRP, so if my lender is going by book value, I'm already starting off behind.

After all that I stopped by my credit union to explain to them the current situation, and the really cute chick that's handling my loan called someone at another office to see if the bike might be worth more because it's technically a new vehicle. Whoever she called asked for the salesman's number, and apparently called him to try to work something out.

I've got no idea what the 3rd party at the CU is doing, but I'm a little afraid they'll screw things up and offer the dealer more than the $7950 I said.

So that's where things stand now, I won't know any more until either the credit union calls me or the salesman calls me tomorrow afternoon. I'm hoping all goes well and I swing by the CU for a check tomorrow after work, then up to NH for a bike.

Try the high volume dealers, down south it's Ft. Lauderdale. You have them around Chicago and NJ and it looks like Calif. has them as well from what's been posted here. Go to Cycle Trader run the search for your bike and make the deal with shipping. I have no problem making deals like that if it's a zero mile bike. They probably aren't going to drop the line and they will announce the 05 bikes and prices in July. Call Steve O at Space Coast HD in Melbourne, Fl., I bought two bikes from him, discounted on both and you can do shipping thru BRAG even, or make a killer memorable vacation out of it and ride it home. You can make it in 2 days and it'll be ready for the 1000 mile service. Heck it's got a 2 yr warranty, nothing is going to break anyhow unless you break it. The price on the 9R's can go nowhere but down...now that everyone wants the 12.

I know that Treasure Coast Harley in Stuart, FL had a '04 9R with the race kit on it about a month ago. I bought my bike there. They were really good to deal with. A buddy of mine bought his '03 9R at Pompano Harley and has had a ton of problems. I would also try Orlando Harley dealers. That's one of the badest dealerships I've ever been in. They have a ridiculous amount of bike. I was up there about three weeks ago. They had a '03 9R, but I don't remember if it was new or used.

Orlando HD does NOT negotiate price, and not much else either. In the time I have bought 2 Buells from Space Coast, I never could make a deal with them.

I hate that. Do they want to sell bikes or not? I just don't understand the mentality of non-negotiable prices. I'd walk out the f'in door in a heartbeat. Treasure Coast worked with me. They were pretty awesome to deal with.

seems to me, I see lots of people looking for the 9s..
I bought My XB9 about a year ago 8400.00 brand spanking new, with free race kit.

If you are near Virginia Beack/Norfolk area, call "southside HD" last time I was there, they had 9s and 12s, I think the 9s were less than 8900.00

Good Luck!

Just to throw this into the mix.
I bought my first Buell Jan of 2000 a 1997 S3 it was a Demo and had I believe about 2000 miles on it.

The factory warranty started the day I picked it up I had the card and paperwork to prove it. So either my dealership did something shady or maybe it can be done both ways.

I had the same worries about it being treated badly by demos but I never had a day of trouble.

The salesman left me a message today, he refused to budge even a little bit from their $8500 list price, that doesn't include a warranty. him. He said something in the message about me offering him $7495 (which never happened), so I called back and left him a message saying I could go to $7950, and I never said anything about $7495. I told him I knew that probably still wasn't enough, but to give me a call and let me know either way. Had he actually called me back, I was willing to go to $8200, if it included a warranty, but he never returned my call, so he can go to hell.

After that ordeal, I went to the Honda dealer down the street from me and worked out a deal for a blue 04 600RR

I really wanted a Buell, but I got so fed up with that , and I really hadn't been able to find much else around here for Firebolts, so I caved and went for my second choice, and I got it cheaper (and with a warranty) than the asshat at Meredith H-D was trying to get for that XB9R.

Thanks for the help guys, it's a shame that salesman had to be such a prick.

Cro13, it wasn't your dealership that did something shady, it was the place I was going to that was being shady. As best as I can understand the situation, it seems like they're registering the demo bikes with Harley, even though they don't have to, just so they can sell extended warranties to people looking to buy a demo bike. It's a load of crap.

Too bad you couldn't have waited the salesguy out. End of the month is coming and you might have........

Oh well, too late. Enjoy that sweet little Honda. But you'd better lose the image of the sexy Firebolt from your mind or you will come back trying to find her again...
