I have a KL600R. I'll be rebuilding the head in the next couple months or so. I'm planning on going to as large of valves as I can get for it. Other than that it's pretty stock and seems VERY light (granted, I haven't moved it around with the head, radiators or coolant in it, but they all seem fairly light as well). I can get a hold of extra rims pretty easily and I though it might make a fun bike to take to track days instead of my 12R. Any thoughts on whether or not it'll work well... It has disk brakes... edited by M1combat on May 26, 2004 |

M1, My experience with KLR brakes is that they suck. But, Court has had good results with stainless braided hoses and swapping out the stock rotor setup. KLR light? Not sure what mine weighs but it ain't light. I love the way it handles though. Have often considered putting on street tires and lowering it. Anyone have a good carb for a KLR they can part with? Well, It's the model before the legendary KLR650... It's light . I certainly couldn't see a more modern KLR650 being light either just from the looks but w/o coolant or the head I think I could pick it up by myself. I doubt I could move it very far though... I suppose though, it doesn't have a battery in it ATM either, but I'm thinking I want to eliminate the battery anyway. I played with the brake a little while I was pushing it around and it seems to work well but now that I actually think about it I'll bet it would be VERY bad on pavement when "driven". Thanks for the heads up . Anyone else? |

I had a KLX650 for about 6 years and got it rebuilt after I put 100,000 miles on it...yes it was tired! I rebuilt it pretty good but it would not compare to the KTM or other Super Motard bikes...they are much faster. I liked the KLX for what it was but I don't know that I could go racing with it without some serious engine work... |

I saw some set up for street here in SF and at the local BattleTrax - only the top 3 finishers beat their time that time. Looks to me like you could have a lot of fun with one set up that way! GT - JBOTDS! EZ |

I was mostly thinking fun. If I want to set good laps I'll give it a whirl on the 12R. I think I'll do it... |
