Any Buells?

Looks like I am going to be there for at least one day. I'm headed to Salt Lake City area next week for a business trip and my co-traveller agreed we HAD to go to Bonneville while we're there.

I've been here two days. So busy working on a live audio feed to the web, haven't enjoyed my usual chair sitting at inspection to count Buells. Did see 2
Blasts, on with turbo. Tomorrow, if the bugs and gliches get sorted, there will be a webcast hosted by Meridix, no sign in, no cost, search "landracing" and Bob's your uncle. Planned to have a plug and go, no brains, no headaches start up, but spent a long time on the phone with their excellent support guy.

Wind came up to 34 mph, early shut down.

Tomorrow, I'll look for Buells after it gets up and running. Cheers

I will be there Friday to shoot some pictures and hopefully see some Buells run. Nothing quite like LSR trials.

I was there a couple of hours yesterday & all day today. Absolutely the coolest motorsports event I have ever witnessed. Saw some cool bikes & at least two 300+ MPH passes by cars. I have a bazillion pics- I'll post some when I get home.

Back home from Bonneville- 7 hours of flying from SLC- ack!

Here's a few pics from what I shot:

Turbo'ed Ducati and blown Triumph

Turbo'ed flathead Harley

1650cc Buell (?)/ Sportster (?)

A couple of Buell tubers (S-1's?)

My favorite car of the meet- the Hudson Boy's Hudson-powered streamliner. He turned 218 MPH with a blown Hudson Hornet 308 cubic inch flathead 6.

Hudson engine.

Turbo'ed Blast!!! Let's see- Blast engine and various other parts, tuber wheels, XB fairing. Think there are any 1125 parts on there?

I believe this lady turned a 197 MPH pass.

Interesting mod'ed flathead Harley. Looks like intake and exhaust ports have been reversed and new intake passages plumbed in. I can't figure out what the hell the original carburetor hanging off the opposite side does. Keeps guys like me wondering "WTF?" I guess.

This bike blew my mind- 90cc (?) Honda- with turbo!

Closeup of turbo.

My first time to Bonneville but I'm pretty sure it won't be my last. I think I have an inkling of why these guys get "salt fever" now.

Bike 1987 is piloted by Aaron Wilson of NRHS fame. He ran a best timed mile of 203 mph and set a new record of 195 mph.

Thanks for the info Lucille. We actually talked to him for a few minutes without realizing who it was. I don't think I've ever been so moto-overwhelmed in my life!

Wow,good for Aaron.200 naked is tough.
Doubt Kathy Butler ran 197 on her 650,she is in the mid-high 170's.
Any speeds by the turbo Blasts?

Yea, I can't imagine 200 on a naked bike.

Yep, I goofed on that photo caption. I believe it was actually this lady in front of Kathy Butler that ran the 197:

I didn't hear a speed on the Blast while I was there, but I found this listing for a record on the SCTA's website:

No. 6261B
Entry Name: Kamphuis Racing
Engine: 750CC
Body: APS-PBF
Old Record: 0.000
New Record: 88.368
Driver/Rider: H/D

Is that the first 1650 A/PF to clock at over 200?

That was Susan Wilson's S1 on the truck I believe.

That's kind of a famous S1. Susan tool that thing to something like 167mph with no fairing . . . and beat the long standing record at Bonneville.

As a result that was one of the most thoroughly torn down, checked and spec'd bikes to run down the black line.

No surprise to anyone that it was found to be perfect and perfectly legal.

Seriously fast folks.

Court "Seriously fast folks." AND very pleasant to talk too when I visited them in their pit. They were busy chasing an electrical problem on the 1987 bike which turned out to be just a bad connector but still had time to talk to me and explain what was going on. I actually broke the conversation to let them continue but they were pretty sure that was why one cylinder started mis-firing. Man does that bike sound good at speed!

It amazed me how utterly wet the surrounding track areas were but after talking to the racers how very dry the track was. Outstanding job by SCTA personnel. Also nice photos Hughlysses, like mine so no need to post again. Bob

I visited with Aaron and Susan briefly at the Bub's meet. Susan was running very fast on the S1 but blew the motor up. Aaron said that letting sunshine into the crankcases was his new "speed secret."

Yes, set a record @ 218, IIRC. It was rebuilt from a total wreck. Nice bunch of folks running it.

I believe that is actually a custom twin turbo Enzo! Car has been in the works for some time now and is finally starting to make the race rounds.

I got a video of the Enzo leaving the starting line on the 2nd day of World Finals. The driver seemed to be having some trouble shifting it:
