Need helmet recommendations. My helmet is messed up, the liner is starting to unsnap from the helmet and as a result it creeps down my forehead.

Can anybody recommend a good website for helmets or a particular brand. Not looking to break the bank but want something that's good.

Thanks,
Bill, Charlotte NC

Bubba the cow poke

A cowboy named Bubba was overseeing his herd in a remote mountainous pasture in California when suddenly a brand-new BMW advanced toward him out of a cloud of dust.

The driver, a young man in a Brioni suit, Gucci shoes, RayBan sunglasses and YSL tie, leaned out the window and asked the cowboy, "If I tell you exactly how many cows and calves you have in your herd, Will you give me a calf?"

Bubba looks at the man, obviously a yuppie, then looks at his peacefully grazing herd and calmly answers, "Sure, Why not?"

The yuppie parks his car, whips out his Dell notebook computer, connects it to his Cingular RAZR V3 cell phone, and surfs to a NASA page on the Internet, where he calls up a GPS satellite to get an exact fix on his location which he then feeds to another NASA satellite that scans the area in an ultra-high-resolution photo.

The young man then opens the digital photo in Adobe Photoshop and exports it to an image processing facility in Hamburg ,Germany .

Within seconds, he receives an email on his Palm Pilot that the image has been processed and the data stored. He then accesses an MS-SQL database through an ODBC connected Excel spreadsheet with email on his Blackberry and, after a few minutes, receives a response.

Finally, he prints out a full-color, 150-page report on his hi-tech, miniaturized HP LaserJet printer, turns to the cowboy and says, "You have exactly 1,586 cows and calves."

"That's right. Well, I guess you can take one of my calves," says Bud.

He watches the young man select one of the animals and looks on with amusement as the young man stuffs it into the trunk of his car.

Then Bubba says to the young man, "Hey, if I can tell you exactly what your business is, will you give me back my calf?"

The young man thinks about it for a second and then says, "Okay, why not?"

"You're a Congressman for the U.S.Government", says Bubba.

"Wow! That's correct," says the yuppie, "but how did you guess that?"

"No guessing required." answered the cowboy. "You showed up here even though nobody called you; you want to get paid for an answer I already knew, to a question I never asked. You used millions of dollars worth of equipment trying to show me how much smarter than me you are; and you don't know a thing about how working people make a living - or about cows, for that matter. This is a herd of sheep. ...

Now give me back my dog.

Since when do GSM based cellular networks get reception outside of a city? Especially a data network...

But then he also has a data link on his Palm, which is an extra phone bill each month. He goes on to use an Excel sheet with a database, which is the wrong way of going about things, as you should use Microsoft Access as its built exactly for that purpose. So now he is receiving an email on a Blackberry (another cellular based plan, more redundancy and wasted money), he could of totally skipped the whole Excel thing as it wouldn't be needed if you just used the satellite uplink image and advanced photo recognizing software to count the heard.

Oh, there is no such thing as a portable color HP Laserjet, their smallest model is bigger than the Uly topcase.

Ok, I am done here : )

Helmet Follow up

I bought a shoei rf 1000 diabloic nightwing from cycle gear. Was on sale for 300, regularly 450.

Funny thing was I left the store with an xtra large thinking it was the proper size then realized after getting home that it was too large. So I had to go back and I ended up with a medium after the 2nd trip. Since then I've measured my coconut and according to the shoei website medium is the correct size for me. I just wasn't used to my helmet feeling so snug.

Luckily it ended up working out and the cycle gear store was real good about helping me get the proper helmet.

If you need a bucket check out the SparX, a VERY GOOD QUALITY helmet at low price point.
Meets both DOT and ECE2205 standards, has a 5-year warranty, free crash replacement and I only paid $110 for it. Available from all the usual suspects, maybe even 1 of our sponsors.

Dilemma,
Appears I can not get the 1125R in white/blue, I don't want a Honda red, and black gets hot here, always looks dusty / dirty and black plastic tends to go chalky white / grey.

Should I compromise and get the black one, or buy an XB to use as a commuter and wait for a used white 1125R to magically appear someday and replace it?

I heard you can still get any color plastics from the dealer for something like $700+ - . You could always sell your others to recoup some cash.

A very good place to start, regarding helmets, is this set of reviews:
http://www.webbikeworld.com/motorcycle-helmets/mot orcycle-helmets.htm

They also go into the comparative weights, and internal shapes. VERY informative.

About the Helmets and Gear, motorcyclesuperstore.com is a great place to shop. They have reviews, size charts and more. I have shopped the clearance for helmets, jacket, gloves, etc. and have always been pleased.

I just wanted to throw my $0.02 out for anyone that needs a new helmet. Right now Revzilla has the HJC FS-15 Carbon for $250 shipped!

http://www.revzilla.com/product/hjc-fs-15-carbon-h elmet

I picked one of these up and must say I am quite impressed. I bought it a size larger (large) than the Scorpion EXO-400 (medium) I am replacing and it is STILL lighter than the Scorp.

The liner is quite nice, especially with the integrated chin skirt. Very comfortable. The shell is beautiful and flaw free, showing off the carbon fiber quite well. I had thought that maybe the over use of carbon fiber in automotive applications might be played out, but for an $50 I couldn't help myself. I'm glad I did! Definately worth the upgrade!

I would have to say that the ratchet system for the visor might need work, it feels a bit loose, not quite the reassuring hard click the Scoropn gave as it closed. That said it does work decently well, especially as it has a lock on the side that while fiddley (have to hold visor firmly down to engage the side lock on mine) should keep the visor in place on those fast runs. Visor is clear and optically accurate. I can wear metal frame glasses under the lid with no problems whatsoever.

I went by the sizing guide on HJC's website and bought the large as I mentioned above. My head is actually in between the upper limit of medium and lower limit of large. I must say I'm glad I went a bit bigger, as it showed me instantly that I have been wearing a size too small for the past 3 years! What was I thinking? This is way more comfortable.

The ear holes in the padding are large, easily able to accomondate a bluetooth/earplugs/earbuds setup if you are so inclined.

I am also pleased by the ease of use of the vents. There are only two! This is as opposed to the 5 on the Scorpion. You easily know just by feel if your vents are open or closed once you get the lid on.

So is the HJC FS-15 worth the $200 asking price online? Yes, I would say so. A great upgrade from a low end Scorpion (which I loved and will keep as backup) Is the FS-15 Carbon worth the $450 MSRP? Sadly no, I wouldn't go that far. BUT it is most definately worth the $50 upgrade over the standard, if just for the weight reduction and look alone! Do yourselves a favor and pick one of these up at the discounted price!!

I will be wearing mine to the Buell Homecoming this June, all 1500+ miles of the journey!

I wonder what will come of California's attempt to legalize Marijuana? What do you see as the major drawbacks to cutting the population loose with such a temptation. Imagine how instead of the prisons being filled to capacity from potheads, instead the sewage treatment plants would be filled to capacity, fast food would become endangered, and we would have a new crop of intelectuals. Shiftlessnes would rise, and production go down. the streets would become a bit more either congested (confusion) or dangerous (out of your gourd). But the tax structure could be made significantly larger with all the new revinue, I'm sure it would all be above board now. Once too lame new programs coud be used due to the need for less sophisticated programs.
