You will be ordering them from American Sport Bike. Some progress this week, should be able to have pricing in the next few days, I think. Al |

Al_lighton Posted on Thursday, June 17, 2010 - 09:58 am: "to have pricing in the next few days, I think." The cost figures will determine the success of this, if the cost is too high we may not make the minimum of 25. As summer unfolds peoples budgets will change with family pressures and unplanned expenses. The longer it takes Al to put this together the greater the attrition rate. If we lose too many we may not make the minimum of 25. hurry up and wait. |

First time I've posted on this thread. Just did a 400 mile weekend and I need a better seat. I'm in for a Saddleman track gel. Thanks, Scott |

Would anyone be willing to summarize where we stand on this? I had thrown my name in way back toward the beginning, but honestly can't keep up with the hundreds of posts in here. If you guys are proceeding, who will do the seats, for how much? What will they look like, and of what will they be constructed? Are there options, or is only one seat type being built? |

-----Summary----- The group has collectively decided that Saddlemen.com with their gel seat is the best. I have 45 people that have voted the Saddlemen gel seat and 1 Corbin. Saddlemen wants 25 or more orders to develop the seat. Al at American Sport Bike stated that he wants to do the deal on May 10th. We have been respectfully waiting for Al at American Sport Bike since then. Early on Dean offered to facilitate, this may yet happen. ---VOTE------VOTE------VOTE--- Do we wait for Al or move on? I vote to just be patient and wait for Al to wrap up the exhaust shootout and then handle the seats when he can. Being a forum supporter, and a proven vendor with ties already made to Saddlemen, I think patience is a virute that will pay off for us in this venture. |

I'd say that Al's probably got the best deal going, even without seeing the price yet. If for some reason it falls through for American Sport Bike, then I'd step up if needed. If you're looking for votes to either wait or move on, I vote wait. |

For what it's worth, I'm very happy with the custom saddle I got from: http://www.motorbikesaddles.com/Buell%201125R%20&%201125CR%20Seats.htm Loren is a great guy doing outstanding work. I even skipped the gel-insert option, and this saddle is 50x more comfortable on long rides vs the stock. -greg

Where we're at.... Things were looking good to get access to the seat pan, which is molded in Taiwan. We have permission from HD to use it, and it was a go, until it was decided that the quantities weren't high enough for them to mold them. I've since inquired as to what quantity I need to buy to make it feasible, and the US contact is checking with the powers that be to get that answer. That was about 1.5 weeks ago, haven't heard anything since. I'll ping my contact again today. It's been difficult. The first contact was on international travel, got sick, and was unreachable. Then the other contact was involved in an auto accident, and was hospitalized. Then the quantity issue. I'm doing all I can, it isn't for lack of trying on my part. Al |

Outsourcing! Are you working with an electronic file of the seat pan molding? Just shopping for prototype shops. I found 18 in Southern California for injection molding prototypes. http://www.thomasnet.com/southern-california/proto types-injection-molded-63752950-1.html quickparts minimum starts at 25 units. http://www.quickparts.com/ToolingProduction/RapidI njection.aspx?s_kwcid=08bdggl004o&gclid=CPG-tIPCxa ICFQ9OagodChmB3A THX |

Checkmate...maybe. The US contact for the company that built the seats for HD was given a verbal permission to use the seat pan for this project, as long as they did NOT say HD or Buell anywhere on them. We proceeded based on that understanding. However, upper management at that company has put the kabosh on using the seat pans without a letter from HD stating the same, and that letter is NOT forthcoming from the verbal source. What that means is that I don't have a source for seat pans that I thought I did. I have some other digging to do now. It's not that it can't be done, it's that it might not be able to be done at the right price target in the quantities I'm looking at. It sure seems like I'm swimming upstream on just about everything these days...... Al |
