I got my 'new' bike today. It is a 2006 xb12ss, 6000 miles, drummer ss. I took it on a maiden voyage to visit my wife at work, about 35 miles round trip. On the way back I noticed the tank felt very hot, particularly against my right leg. From my reading on here, I seem to understand that is normal? When I got home I parked in the driveway and went inside, came out about 45 min later and noticed a very strong odor of gasoline. No leaks that I can see. The bike still felt very hot- maybe even hotter than before. And all over the place- the airbox cover, tank of course, seat. I also didn't notice the fan that I have read everyone talking about at all. It's probably in the 80's here today so I would assume the fan is not functioning as it should. I did check the oil after this and found it was in the low region and topped that off. Could that have anything to do with it? Any other suggestions, or is this all normal stuff? | ||

Checked the oil per the manual (bike just shut off and at operating temp)? If it sits for more than 30 seconds or so, it will read low. Was the fan on at all during the ride, or immediately afterward? Was the bike sitting in the sun? | ||

Check the fan fuse. | ||

Sometimes thats happens to me too. Mostly when I park in the sun at 105 degrees. Especially with the black bike. | ||

I checked the oil as instructed. I am not sure if the fan was on at all while I was riding. The exhaust is so loud I am not sure that I could hear it over that. It was in full shade, so definitely not a sun issue. I will check the fan fuse today. | ||

Right side frame hotness can be reduced with header wrap, right side scoop (RSS), ceramic coating of header or lining fuel rail with heat shield. Any of those will reduce the heat, or combined can help alot. |
