Mounted two tires on Saturday since my rear tire inexplicably went flat last Thursday. I say "inexplicably" because after we had the tire off, we couldn't find any punctures or damage to the tire or rim. Since part of the tire mounting procedure involved removing the valve core I'll never know if that was the problem.

Went on a 100+ mile ride upstate New York in the Rockland County area (hosted by the Second Generation Motorcycle Association). At the endsite the skies opened up, and radar showed it wasn't going to be clearing any time soon. Naturally, I didn't have my rain gear so I got to ride home (60+ miles) in a Rev-It mesh jacket.

Somewhere on the Bronx River Parkway the rear tire went flat AGAIN. Fortunately we were near the Celtic Motorcycle Club's clubhouse. My friend Bob figured they'd be there watching the USGP so he went for help. One of them came by with a specially-built van and we got the bike off the road.

First things first: we watched the race, then headed back to his house where he had a full workshop in his garage. This flat wasn't a mystery... it almost looked like I ran over a fork! There were three holes all in a row in the center of the tread. Plugging that would've been questionable but fortunately he had JUST pulled the tires off his Concours 14 and it would fit. It was a Bridgestone sport touring tire, 190/55 ZR 17... a little bit bigger than stock but I've read enough people here running that size tire that I took it. At least it would get me home.

The rain had finally stopped but on the way home I noticed the "Check Engine" light came on. I also noticed the speedometer/odometer and gear indicator were not working!! WTF?? Is there anything ELSE that could go wrong??

It's due for it's 12.4K service anyway so I guess I'll find out what happened soon enough.

You either need to recharge your dilithium crystals or the spod rod has fouled the ganglepin resulting in a meltdown of the amalgamated proton assimilator. I'm sure Buell dealers will know all about it as it was covered under the latest service bulletin, and will relaminate your unterschurfburger as part of the service agreement ; )

Is that wildy speculative enough?

I'm not certain if you get the check engine light with a VSS failure but either way I'd check the codes to see what you have.

I would also check that the clutch status switches from 0 to 1 when in Diag mode as I know you won't get a gear indicator if it thinks the clutch is pulled and I can't recall whether you also lose the speedo display (I'll check on the ride home later)

Yeah well... I don't wear it when I ride... it's for "after."

Since yesterday was just a "day ride" I didn't even have it packed with me.

My Rear tire kept going flat.

Was 4 small spots of corrosion on the rim inside of the tire which pushed bead out enough to slowly leak a few pounds out a night.

Asked if that was normal or a warranty issue and i got "it happens now and then".. and a repair bill.

Friend of mine bought a new 2009 12R. The "Made in China" rear rim has a leak. Any one with this issue have any luck with a warranty fix? Can it be welded on the inside of the wheel without burning the finish?

Not a chance, those were only fitted to air cooled models to keep the flux generators from going into meltdown mode.

Just get a new wheel under warranty.
