been to 2 dealers with my 09 CR first dealer says the bike has a possible top end noise and DONT RIDE IT, but we cant look at it for at least a week, called different dealer, he said bring it down we'll look at it today, just got a call, couldnt find anything wrong, they all and i quote "they all sound like a box of rocks, ride it" , on my way down 2 pick it up, having them write on the repair order that tech found nothing wrong and bike is good to go, oh it'll get riden this weekend, ill see how she likes 11,000 rpms! fu*kin HATE HD dealers!! |

If the first dealer acknowledged the noise, just be patient and let them have a look at it. Sure, if the motor blows up in the meantime, you'll probably have less difficulty getting it replaced, but do you want to risk locking up the motor when you are hauling ass through a corner? |

If it's the balance gears issue then you should definitely fix it and it should be a warranty repair. I'll be damned if I can find that thread either. |

Is it the normal mechanical sound of the motor, just amplified, or something else? You may recall my trackbike had a "car belt squeek noise" then would just die. After a few start/squeek/die seessions, it made it thru the first few seconds of warmup, it would run seemingly normal. |

Rotor nut was checked by first dealer, said to be at 227 ft lbs, i know Erik Buell said torque to 300, issue all started with what FRESNOBUELL describes, but now does not have the squeal, only had the squeal the FIRST time all this started, bike has 2300 miles, running HD syn 3 oil, engine sounds like there may me one of those small phillip head machine screws rattling around in the engine, noise SEEMS to be coming from the left side and or top end, its hard to pin point |

FRESNOBUELL, did you ever find the cause to the squeal/die issue? |

If you can hear this at idle, take a screwdriver and place the tip on the engine and the handle on your ear and move around to try an localize the sound. Might give you a better idea where is coming from. |

FRESNOBUELL, did you ever find the cause to the squeal/die issue? No, due to work I haven't been able to play with the bike. Now I am getting a bit worried--better look into the stator nut issue.} |

Have the same noise on my 1125r. Everyone says it's normal. Rode it 450 Miles last weekend............Lot's of Red Line riding and all is well. If I ever get any time away from work I will take it to the local Hardley Dealer in Folsom. |

Now that I think about it, the noise seems to be coming from the opposite side from the stator and also higher. |

I had a nice racket going on in my engine....1600mi later it cracked the case. Dealer said the oil pump gave out or something. |

My 09 CR is loud as hell too. It seemed to get worse after I change the break in oil out. I had it running the other day so a friend could listen to the exhaust and he was like "what the hell is that clunking in the engine". It has to be pretty loud because I wear ear plugs and can still hear it. I'm not really worried about it though. |

you could try to look at the oil either off the dipstick or drain a bit out and see it there are any excessive tiny metal shavings, if something is wearing real bad you should be able to see it in the oil. |

I am going to look at the "trap door" underneath the motor...its an oil screen that catches all the "big stuff" and is a good indicator if the engine is eating itself. Hopefully there won't be anything scary in there!!! |

Question: I have been around no other 1125Rs. I find engine on this bike to be very loud above 5K rpm. I assumed this to just be normal and I am cool with it. It is normal correct; that the engine noise is very loud compared to say a GXR1000? Or other in-line four that hums like a sewing machine (yes I know the 1125R is a v-twin). |

Y'all should try riding a Uly at 5-6,000 RPM, THEN you'll know what noisy is! The common description of our motor noises: like a sock full of nickels in a dryer. Hope your issues get sorted... |

I have a 1125CR and it had a noise similar to the noise that you were talking about. It was opposite of the stater and little higher, turned out to be the crank nut on the clutch side. Had fine metal pieces in oil. They tightened it up and is running great and quiter than it ever was. Just took forever to get the bike back. Also was told those bikes rattle so bad that they couldn't tell if it had a noise or not. |

What is the build date on your cr? A few of the early ones had a recall for the cam chain tensioner. |

A race engineer birdie familiar with our bikes once told me to not even bother changing the oil filter. Instead, drop that screen every time. Apparently, anything about to go boom shows up in that screen first. In his opinion, the oil filter was just along for the ride. |

well since I'm the guy with the ulcer I thought I should pull the muffler off, dump the oil and check the screen. Nuthin' much even to talk about there, 3 tiny flakes and a micro size speck of filter. But I did notice that it took more oil than 3qts like it usually does. I added some after a ride but will have to ride it again to see actually how much |
