I've got a low milage '09 XB12Ss, purchased new in Feb of this year. Been running great. Then on the way home, it just dies. Turns out the fuel pump fuse blew.

I wasn't doing anything weird. Why would this happen? Is this something I now need to be paranoid about?

Sometimes fuses just fail. If the new one doesn't blow after a couple of days I would just forget about it. It never hurts to have a few spare fuses though.

i have a 09 city x and i blew through 3 fuses. the dealer replaced the fuel pump and it has not happened yet. that was about 1900 miles ago. i also read of a few people on hear with 09 lightnings having same issues. i would have the dealer check it because it is still under warranty, and fuses do not blow for no reason

09 lighting here, same issue, its at the dealer waiting on a backordered fuel pump.

Just did the fuel pump on a Uly and there were NONE available in the entire US,back ordered until august sometime. Nice work HD!! Got one from Erik Buell Racing next day air,bike back on the road.

7 fuel pump fuses on my 18 mo. old CityX. Destination has HD's approval to install a new fuel pump when the next one goes.

What are the build dates on your bikes L8_br8ker and Swamp2? I have an '09 Ss built in Jan '09, and am wondering if I'm next.

The failure isn't always electrical though. They can fail from vibration too. Notice I said that "sometimes they just fail". I don't really know if the original really burned, or if it was just called blown as a generic term for a failed fuse. I've seen a number of electrical gremlins solved by checking the fuse with a tester, long after the fuse was found "good" with a visual check. It happens.
