Bar ends got destroyed in crash. Any ideas on how to get the new ones in? Tried twisting, bashing, heating, no luck. |

If you're talking aftermarket parts -- you need thinner than standard bar-end weights or you need to drill out the center piece in the bars an inch or so. |

Standard bars for the R run about $22 each from the dealer. |

The OEM plastic ones are a crush design. The easiest way is to pull the handlebar off and put the whole thing in a vice and press them into place. |

I went to a local metric shop and bought a set of generic anodized plugs. Stick 'em in and tighten. Done in the parking lot.

zac - that's what I did. Local CycleGear. They aren't heavy enough to dampen the vibed though, but I spent $11 to find out. |

Steve - I also added 4-5 oz of birdshot in a heavy ziplock in each bar. no buzz. Z |

zac. good call. I think I have some old (probably moldy) 12ga. shells around somewhere. Maybe I'll empty those out... OR... maybe I'll make the barend into a single shot barrel -- like those shark-killer bangsticks I saw on TV once. Perhaps hook it up to a bike alarm and proximity sensor. Bad guy stands next to the bike, tries to move the handlebars. Bang. Bad guy learns lesson: it's not ok to F with someone else's motorcycle. ...wonder if that's illegal? hmmm.... |

We made some really solid ones for the 1125 http://www.twinmotorcycles.nl/webshop/artikel.asp? guid=YXHFSC&aid=1825&cid=5365&s=&a= |

Dris - the birdshot absorbs the vibrations better than a solid chunk. Think claw hammer vs. dead-blow on an anvil. Steve - man-trapping is very illegal... I turned these ends(aluminum) in my bench lathe and used the retaining parts from the "store bought" ones.

beat mine in with a hard rubber hammer, smashed my fingers a few times too. once they start to fold back they go right in. it's just getting the first layer to fold... |
