I have a 2001 X1 drag bike, never rode on the road only at the strip. It has all the goodies for drag racing, air shifter, two stage, slick, wheelie bar, etc. Had the bike running great end of last year, deadly consistent never any problems. First race this year the pinion nut gear backs off and destroys everything in the crankcase and oil pump (luckily it didn't destroy anything in the top end). Figured while motor was tore apart I would replace the pistons as well so I put in a 1250 kit from NRHS ( http://www.nrhsperformance.com/ekitbuell1200.shtml ) and put in andrews N6 cams and minor head work. Now I can't get the fuel mapping quite right but I am working on that and will get that right. My problem now is that the heat sensor won't read the engine temp it keeps saying -10 C. The sensor has been replaced and still not working. The cold start enrichment is flooding the bike out and never comes off of 216%. Any ideas? Or does anyone wanna buy a drag bike?

Thanks Mick, I've only heard that about 800 times .

Thought about it, but that isn't causing my current problems. I can fix the fuel issue but it is aggravating as H**L!

Try checking the Ets wiring circuit.

it is either in the wiring or the ECM.
if you have or can borrow another ecm, try that.
obviously if it still does it then it is the wiring.

Sorry Hybrid dont have any photos to post right now.

Its not it the wiring, checked all the wires and there is very little to no resistance on the wires so theres not a short. Put the factory ECM back on it and it still isnt working right. Some how or another throughout all this it is reading the temp now but it isn't reading constant. The temp should raise and lower steadily but it jumps around and then steadies out and if you rev it a few times it goes crazy fluctuacting a 100 degrees or so and then steadies back out when idling. Is this normal? I wouldnt think so? I checked the ground and everything else I could think of, any ideas? Or is it normal for the temp to hunt for some reason?

Thanks for the responses so far any help is good.

willep

intermitting ground, intermitting open circuit time for the jiggle test, the harness has an issue, My x1s' IAT had the wires break at the back of the connector.

Thanks

I started looking at that stuff yesterday. I am going to run another ground cable and resolder all the connections for the after market drag racing stuff, hopefully that will fix it.

Newest symptom, actually the symptom all along maybe?

After going through every wire again! Found no problems. I have even went through and resoldered all my connections for my drag racing stuff and re wired most of it. It isnt in the wiring!!

When starting it I thought I had fixed the problem but after 20 seconds the engine temp goes crazy then stays on 249. I shut it off and try again and it does the same thing.

Why does it do this?

Found the problem and it was the mechanic/owner being a dumba**. Some how some way the engine temp sensor came loose, I checked it the other day but apparantly not good enough.

Thanks to those that gave input. For future reference for anyone with a weird acting temp check the sensor and then check it again.

On the bright side all my wiring is immaculate now and a lot pretty than before.
