Use the KISS method. Load the map or EEPROM file then do a TPS reset. Bet it will run then. I think you corrupted the TPS with the EEPROM file from someone elses bike. BC Steve |

is the battery fully charged ? ("wont turn over" ?) i had a no start problem when i first got my x1, it would turn over fine but not fire, it was a low battery. You must do a tps reset everytime you load an eeprom. My 1999 x1 has the firmwear BUEIA112 04-15-99, its a race ecm. I'll send a copy. good luck. (Message edited by snowbees on July 11, 2010) |

Hoot, thanks for the offer!! I ordered a new ECM and it should be at my residence tomorrow afteroon. Now, a questions for the experts... After I install the new ECM, is a TPS reset required? Thanks!! Lee |

yes, it is definitely required, roll on a little throttle while parked, and you'll understand why. You should be able to do the reset with ECMSpy. |

Yes, the throttle position is stored in the ECM. You need to go through setting the TPS when you install a different ECM. |

That's what I thought... I'll do the TPS reset after the ECM install... Thanks!! |

I sure hope it works out for you even though ECM failures are generally fairly rare. I suspect the failure probability is about the same as a faulty TPS which could manifest itself with similar symptoms. As everybody has said, make sure you do a TPS reset after you do the swap and do it properly by making sure that the throttle plate is fully closed through a visual/physical inspection. |

I ordered the 99-02 X1 ECM that is an upgrade from the original 99 version. I am pretty sure after the ECM swap and TPS reset that I will be ready for my trip to Laguna Seca... Lee |

An update for all of you that were wonderful enough to help me out... I installed the new ECM, performed a TPS reset, and changed the fluids (oil and primary). Now the X1 runs like a champ and is more than ready for my trip to Laguna Seca. I guess the real moral to this story is: "Don't 'F' with things a week before you go on vacation!!" Again, my sincerest thanks go out to all of you that were kind enough to come to my aid... Lee |

My Laguna Seca trip was flawless with the exception of my voltage regulator going out while I was in California. The bonus was that it died just before my crew and I were leaving Lompoc for Santa Maria to pick up a few more riders. A push start and a quick ride to Santa Maria HD (where we were meeting up anyway) began my repair actions. Santa Maria HD didn't have any stock Buell parts, but one of their techs (Dennis) decided to think outside the box and re-wire a new Sportster regulator to get me back on the road. Bottom line: Due to the great service that Santa Maria HD gave me as a "downed rider", I was able to complete my trip without any other incident. My sincerest thanks go out to Mandy (service writer), Dennis (tech), and Martin (dealership GM) for all of their help!!!!! Lee |
