I noticed some free play while grabbing the clutch lever so i checked the fluid level. The reservoir was almost empty. I refilled and bled the system. Little to no air cam out and the lever came back right away. The fluid isn't leaking out of the weep hole or anywhere else externally...pulled the puck and its dry inside. Where is the fluid going? Into the engine? I posted this on another thread so sorry for the re-post. 2010cr

had this happen to my 2010CR. my local dealer sorted it under warranty, but assured me no fluid could get into the engine and contaminate the oil. i dont know what parts were replaced though as i never asked. also it has happened to at least 1 other bike in the UK all 2010 models (Message edited by Mtch on July 02, 2010) |

So the normal weep is from one of those black orings, in the pic, wearing out? |

Normal weep is from the o-rings not seating properly. From what I was told, they used too much lubricant on the o-rings for it to seat. |

To much lubricant? Isn't brake fluid a sort of lubricant? So is the whole clutch assembly, behind the cover, filled with brake fluid? I admit that i don't understand how it works, but I know that silver cylinder in the pic moves in and out of the clutch cover hole and my o-rings seem to be coming apart. |

There shouldn't be much fluid right behind the puck. The DOT4 is in there, and not in the engine... there's a diaphragm that separates the hydraulic fluid from the engine oil. At least, that's what I recall when I replaced my outer clutch cover and misc parts. |

is this freeplay slack prior to the clutch engaging? |

What are riders seeing as a lead-time for parts and repair of the clutch weep? I just had H-D service advise...after having the bike for over two weeks, that the piston will not be available for release until July 16th. 4-weeks of prime time riding gone and the dealer won't let me test ride a used 09 CR for two weeks. Can anyone recommend a good Buell friendly dealer as a potential source, for the needed parts? |

is this freeplay slack prior to the clutch engaging? mine actually went while riding. i had parked it on a steep slope uphill, and assumed that the fluid level had dropped enough to allow air into the system while it was parked. then i rode 200 yards and the clutch packed up. once it was bled it worked fine. however the fluid disappeared later at home while parked. up until then everything worked fine. What are riders seeing as a lead-time for parts and repair of the clutch weep? my 2010 CR was at dealers for 3 weeks. the dealer got most parts right away, but one seal took sometime. the clutch works fine now after 800 miles since repair this is in England, and i dont know if the parts had to come from the US |

The piston/liner kit(X2086.1AM) is backordered until 7/16. Once the parts are there, the "fix" takes an hour or so to install. Mine was a slow dribble I rode with for a year and a half. I had to top off the reservoir twice in 18k miles. All fixed in Feb finally, no leaks still, 25k. Hang in there. Zack |

Zack, so where is the fluid going? I took mine into my dealer. They basically scratched their heads and said they have never seen it before. I asked them, if the fluid isn't coming out, is it going into the motor? ....more head scratching. Then they dumped some dye into my reservoir and want me to come back to see if anything is weeping into the engine oil. |

How long has it been since you topped off the res? I've been in and around my clutch a lot lately, and I'll tell you that I believe you lose a little fluid to evaporation. The DOT lubricates the seals and in addition to providing the hydraulic pressure for the piston's movement, lubricates the path ways. So, you do leave just the smallest amount behind, just in front of the forward travel of the piston, each time you use the clutch. We are talking about a thin, thin film of DOT4 at the very most, but after hundreds of clutch disengagements it is something. So goes my theory. |

On mine, it dribbled out the weep hole in the RevA cover. Then I had a 25mph lowside out the parking lot at work and got to buy a RevB cover. Still dribbled. With the RevB cover tho, I could turn the puck upside-down and put the weep-hole at the top. That gave me more time between clean-ups. Finally a lasting fix came out and I got it done as soon as Service slowed down from the Summer rush last year. X2086.1AM and a shot of Penicillin will cure all your dribbles... Z |

Zac, What's the PN on just the o-rings for the piston on an '09 clutch? |

The slipper clutch is vacuum assisted, if the inner seal on the slave piston leaks it will be pulled up the vacuum hose and burnt during combustion in the engine. At least I think that is what would happen. |
