Hello again and now back in South Africa. I am experiencing problems on the paint of my Mellenium X1 frame or the frame itself that is under stress. This problem actually started in Germany in the first year but the dealer there just shrugged their shoulders . the bike is nou 4 years old and I have only done about 7 thousand miles with it (still have the original Dunlops on)and apperance of the paint cracking progressively got worse. At this point its kreepin all over the lower part and it looks like its been chopped with a very sharp knive underneathe the clearcoat. If you touch the areas you cannot feel any uneaveness. Has any one else experienced the same problem?? will the factory listen? On the front fender the one rear monting point has also disintigrated and is only fastend on the one side. Has anyone also experienced this.? I am also attaching a photo of the worst area of the problem on the frame. |

Ptown, I rather doubt you have a problem with the frame itself. It more likly a paint problem. Doesn't this look like "orange peeling"? Did you buy the bike new? You should talk with the dealer and if they do not have an explaination talk with the Buell Zone rep. If that does not work, you will find contact info for Buell customer service elsewhere on this site. Also post this picture and the one of your fender on the "for the factory" part of this site. Heat maybe? It's right by the header. Think about how far a steel tube would have to bend before the paint cracked. I can't believe is is a mechanical stress fracture. The paint is even failing on the weld. The tube would break before the weld would bend. At least to my way of thinking. Uh...??? |

Pretty hard to beleive a Buell frame would flex enough to crack the paint. I saw one that crashed hard enough on the race track, 100 mph plus, to rip the forks out of the triple trees. The frame was straight after and reused on the same bike. Went on to win some races. |

Darn it...I wish I had a digital camera. B/C I also have the same thing in the same place. I never really thought of it much. I just always thought it was a mix of a lil bit of stress and a lil bit of engine spooge coming from the breathers. (lol..I keep forgetting to get new hoses) |

Looks heat related to me, but what do I know? |

my guess is heat induced paint problem only..caused by heat and cool flex cycles from the engine/header..but what do I know .. |

It appears to be the clearcoat only, that is spiderwebbing. May have been a defect in the powdercoat. IMHO. SteveH |

Ptown! It's good to hear from you again. I haven't heard from you in awhile. Thanks for your hospitality while I was in Berlin. Oh yeah, on with the subject at hand... Early Millennium X1's did have powdercoat problems on their frames. I do not remember all the details about it, but it took a few 'adjustments' to the procedure to produce durable results. With you buying your Buell in Germany and taking it home with you to South Africa, there may be difficulties in getting this situation resolved. I hope that someone from the factory is reading this thread so that you can get some clout on resolving this matter. Take care, 1313 |

Tks for the info. I bought the bike new in 2000 in Germany. I took the bike to a Harley dealer abouyt 2 weeksa ago where they took pictures of the affected areas and said they will take it up with the factory. To date i havent had any feedback from them. The problem is nou sreadin all over the frame and i can tell you it doent look good. It looks like someone took a sharp blade and made small sharp cuts on the frame . The propem seems more under the clear coat and only at the severe areas you can feel it slightly .If anyone can forward a more specific name and telephone number or Email addresse it will be appreciated. Best regards Eugene Sunny South Africa |

Hello Well at end last got a response from the factory via the dealership in Pretoria. There comment: the distortion was most likely caused by storage problems and fluctuation in temperatures. No tell me did this also happend to someone living up north in Canada?? I had the bike also for another valuation and was found thqat stress caused it, the couting is hrd and does not flex with the frame at that point which is a stress point. On the fender side they put the plame to the fact that i have put another disc on the bike and thus is the cause for it. I have never even taken the fender of for the job. The last persone to fork on that part of the bike was a official mechanic. So now I dont know, 12000 kilos and this has already gone wrong. regards Eugene |
