Folks: I looked and could not find the posts and pics of stripping down the front wire from the fly screen to the frame on the left side. I notice bike that the bike was running very rought on the way home. I reached down and jiggled that bundle of wires and got minor a feeling of surging. I went on a three day mini-vaction last sunday and bike just died while going straight. Turned off bike went through restart procedure and started up and was good for next 300 miles and next two days. Yesterday cleaned up ECM connections. Hard wired plugs 77 and 69(?), due to being stranded alongside road over last two years. Soagain help with the elctrics would be appreciated. This is getting old and expensive to be towed home.

Pso, this is the link to one that I posted in relation to the broken splices for the instrument back-up power and the R/H blinker circuit. The loom is covered with cloth friction tape that can be unwound and re-used with a little care. I've been into mine three times and am still running the original tape.
If you take the headlights and the 'beak' off as an assembly you have an uninterrupted workspace. After removing the loom guide you can unwind the cloth tape from where it joins to the sheathed section and work back up towards the instruments.
Now, having said all that the two faults that I had wouldn't have caused rough running or cut the ignition.

The kill switch wiring would be worth checking - (Grey/Orange and White/Black wires) I suppose as they would run through this area. At least with the loom open like this you could wiggle every wire individually with the engine running.

the 77 and harness around the steering head.

Is this a problem with all ulys or just pre 08?

Thanks

My wire harness has given me fits too!
My neutral light goes out when the steering head is turned to the right.
Haven't fixed that yet, but did fix the
three brown wire splice, which caused my
right rear blinker to stop working.

Are the '08+ more prone to wire loom failure because the steering head can turn more than the '07 and therefor flex the wire joints more?

I have never had wire harness problems on any of my other 22 motorcycles and scooters.
Kind of depressing, especially since I don't
really think Harley cares.
Now or anytime in the next six and a half years.
And, if I bought a new $200 wire harness now for a spare, it would probably be defective too!!

Thanks Rays, two weeks ago my grey and orange wire worked lose under the fuse block, left me stranded alongside the road, $150 tow charge (that is second time stranded by electronics). I now use the left side bag for all the spare parts, latches, clutch cable, extra VR. spare belt, and all the tools to make repairs as needed. As I have been saying for the last two years the designer for the electronics on this bike should do the honerable thing.
