There was a thread a while back complaining about wind buffetting at high speed on the 1125r. A few weeks ago, I had mine opened up and the buffetting at 135mph was so intense that I didn't go any faster. In the other thread, someone suggested that the rider's gear was responsible for the buffetting. I've worn the exact same gear at 150mph on my Daytona 675 and was completely stable. I'm of the opinion that perhaps a bigger windscreen would improve airflow and reduce buffetting. Those of you with aftermarket screens, how have they affected buffetting at high speed? | ||

Quiet zone cockpit is great. There has to be some benefit from such a large fairing. I would look at other factors. (Message edited by fresnobuell on June 13, 2010) | ||

Interesting...I tend to agree with Fresno here. I have seen plenty of times up in that 135 range with absolutely no turbulence issues. Are you tucked a little, a lot, or not really at all? That would have a big factor, but I have found that even tucked a little (like half or so) is pretty smooth at high speeds. | ||

I experienced the buffeting (oh crap, I guess there is only one "t" in buffeting) in full tuck, with my chin pretty much on the tank. I was wearing my AGV leather suit which hasn't given me any buffeting well into triple digits on my '01 GSX-R600 track bike--RIP. I've ridden without a helmet a few times, and even at 55mph, if I tuck in completely, there is still a lot of wind noise on the 1125R. Other bikes I own, I can tuck at that speed and it's a lot quieter than sitting up. I agree that with a fairing that big, it ought to be quiet, but it's definitely not. I'm 6'4" if that has any bearing on it. | ||

Well, maybe your 6 foot 4 frame is a factor because I am 6 ft. even and I have had the 1125R at speeds in excess of 140 and have not had an issue with wind resistance or turbulence in the least unless I sit up a bit high. I have however, experienced the noise factor. | ||

I know this might sound stupid but take it in the spirit it is intended.. When you were winding up to 135 was it a windy day at all, and were you on a exposed road, by that i mean nothing around to break up the sidewinds or headwinds? 135 on a particular day with a 15mph tail wind will feel a lot different to the same speed with a 15mph side or head wind. Do you still have the stock screen? I'm 6'1 and "big" and I do feel some minor buffeting at speeds around that region but it's significantly better with the zero G fitted. | ||

I really like the Corsa screen that Erik Buell Racing is selling. It's a little better than the Double Bubble, IMHO, for making a nice tuck spot behind the fairing for the rider. | ||

I have the ZG Corsa installed and love it.. I can tuck behind it and still see clearly with a lot less wind noise, buffeting etc.. | ||

i've seen 160+ on a wide open tall bridge not had any buffeting. fully tucked with mesh jacket and pants with a leather vest over jacket. im 6-1 230 without the gear suspension set to recommended settings for my weight per the 08 book it's an 08R bike is all stock with just over 3k on it | ||

A speed hump on my leathers corrected this for me. I had minor turbulence right behind my helmet and when I bought my new set of leather with a speed hump it all went away. | ||

Jules, now that you mention it, I was on a deserted road that runs between some farmland that had apparently already been harvested--flat, wide-open, and yes there was a crosswind too. It's certainly possible that those factors increased the buffeting. I guess I'll just have to try a high-speed run when there isn't a crosswind and see what happens. The Corsa windscreen does look pretty nice.. I think I may go that route regardless of the crosswind's effect. |
