I am trying to tighten the bolt at the bottom of the fork into the damper assembly inside the tube but the damper assembly just keeps rotating inside the tube. I didn't have problems with the other side and I'm wondering why it's doing that. Do you guys think if I was to screw the top of the fork back on and try compressing the fork while tightening the bolt it would prevent the damper assembly from rotating inside the tube? Thanks in advance for any help with this. The bike is a 2002 X1W. |

Its been a very long time since I did that task (way over-due, I guess) but as I recall, that's the way I did it. Bit of a pain to have to wrestle the cap on twice. |

A short update, if anyone can benefit from this. I tried compressing the fork, got the bolt in a bit tighter but the damper kept rotating. I used an impact in the end, I guess the speed of rotation of the impact was too quick for the damper to follow and the bolt finally "caught", then I was able to torque it. |
