My motor is toast. Medium acceleration up a hill, 3rd gear at approx. 8,000 rpm loud POP rear locked up. Bike all stock. mechanic at dealer was turning it over, and says its top end, probably sucked a valve. Bike wont likely be touched till next week, but I'm wondering what others have experienced-time tables, problems with HDI, etc. Will I be riding again before summer is over? |

Probably not. It will likely depend on your dealership. If they really like Buells, possibly. If they'd rather be installing chrome on things... probably not. |

They are a GREAT dealer, and pro-Buell. I just know HDI will be making the call, and a quick decision would be nice. As much as I want to know the cause of failure, I certainly DON'T want to wait months while things are examined and investigated. I would imagine that if this had happened last summer, things would have gone along reasonably quickly. |

Let's hope that they can be rebuild the motor - somebody in the UK has said that engines and frames are no longer available. But perhaps it's different in the States. |

from the sounds we heard when the tech cranked it over, it doesn't sound good for rebuilding, but time will tell. I have seen a few posters that had 2010 motors put in their grenaded bikes. I just want my baby back, and healthy. |

plenty of motors available on consignment at Erik Buell Racing if H-D needs to replace yours. mine dropped the cam follower and took out the front cylinder 3 months after purchase in similar circumstances. the HD techs wanted to rebuild but i voted with Buell customer service on replacement. took longer than i wanted(6 weeks) but 16000 miles later i'm still happy. best luck, tim |

I had to have my engine replaced last summer due to a bent crankshaft. Took HD a month to make a decision on what they were going to do and then another 4 weeks to get the engine installed in my bike. I was without the bike from mid june to end of august. Hope yours goes smoother than my experience. Good luck with it. |

But you got the same year motor, right? The feds certify things for legal sale. Putting a 2008 motor in a 2010 bike or vice versa could be a nightmare, legally and practically. You SHOULD have been able to get a motor changed out in a matter of a couple days. There was a program designed with the 1125R to quickly get replacement motors where the needed to be and to quickly recover any that had problems to get data from. I think it was called "Infant Care". |

I had a problem with my bike, 2008 R bought new in January of 2010, first ride 8 miles on it, internal oil pressure issue. HD made the call to replace the motor 1 day after the dealer picked up the bike. New 2010 motor showed up 10 days later and the dealer did the swap, the new motor came with the charging harness update. Overall it was about a month without a bike, the good news was a 2010 motor with sight glass for checking oil and the VIN# matched my 2008 frame. I posted this back in March and HD and my dealer did a great job. |

I hope mine blows up so I can get a 2010 motor. I just want the sight glass. |

The dealer was never able to tell me what motor they put in be it 08 or 09 spec. Part of the trouble tho might be trev deeley canada dragging there heals. The service manager did his best to get it done quickly but his hands were tide until HD canada made up there minds, which took over a month. Maybe one day someone will be able to tell me what engine I have in the bike now but im not holding my breath on that. |

Court-you are scaring me with the past tense 'should have' part....this is why I am really worried about my situation. I have no Buell behind me like the others all did |

I wonder if the oil sight glass can be installed with a new engine casing. |
