Sorry for the Erik Buell Racing start of the last thread, didnt seem to open. Installed the FMF Apex pipe last night and put 30 miles on it with the stock ECM (latest flash with charging harness upgrade) . Pretty loud, I didn't install the db killer, 2 options for that for sound level. Super east install and it fit perfect, very nicely made in the USA. I did take off the FMF sticker as it looks better in bare carbon. It ran nice, 72 degrees going into to work and it was as good as the stock pipe, 98 degrees on the way home and some lean decell popping. The Erik Buell Racing FMF ECM was arrived and I installed it and went for a 25 mile ride, it really improved the low end driveability, no surge anywhere, lugged it down to 2200 in 2nd & 3rd and it pulled cleanly thru, you could ride at 3000 all day smoothly. Only brought it up to 8000 as it was still 95 degrees out and didn't want to beat on it at the high temps. No dyno #'s before & after, sorry but I don't care about sheer power, I do know it has more torque in the 3-5k range which is where I do most of my riding. This combo really makes the bike feel like a more refined ride that the EPA most likely took away to meet the emissions & noise stuff. And the accel in first gear on letting out the clutch thing is gone. Erik Buell Racing made my bike run the way it should, truly amazing, it's all in the tune.

Glad to hear it runs good. How is engine braking? I think I'm one of the few that like that and everyone has been saying it reduces it a lot. |

I think i would have went with the FMF if it wasn't for all the problems with some busting in half. I also didn't wanna re-pack it every oil change or so. Blur...Not sure about everyone else's Erik Buell Racing ecm, but on mine there is no engine breaking anymore..GONE.. Took some getting used to but it's alot better in 1st 2nd gear turns when you don't want that dive. |

Hey Blur, not much engine braking but more than my stock tune had. I would have preferred more engine braking and I should have added that in the note section when ordering. The bike ran great today with the temp around 80, ran it to redline a few times thru the gears and it seemed to pick up some ponies on top, stronger midrange and sounded awesome, 10,000rpm and the sound becomes something you could sell on iTunes. I think I heard of only one person having a crack at the bottom after a ton of race days, you should repack all mufflers with packing at least once a year, put a cap on the end when washing the bike to keep water out, that will help a lot. The can has a heat sensor sticker that changes color when you need to repack which is nice. FMF has a great warranty and is made in the USA. I had the original Buell race exhaust on my S1 and that needed to be repacked often to have max power, you could tell by the tone of the exhaust and the power loss when it needed it. I bought this pipe mainly based on the specific tune Erik Buell Racing has for this. |
