The Racetec is a soft track day tire. I don't recall if it's DOT approved, but it will wear out very quickly on the street. It probably won't come up to temp on the street unless you do some very aggressive cornering. I've used Racetecs on my 01 gsxr600 track bike and was very happy with them for track use. But I can't imagine they would fare very well on the street. | ||

That's cheap. Would make a good track day tire. I would think someone that is fast would start roasting a soft rear though. | ||

Agreed. My S1000RR came with the Racetec K3, which is a significantly harder street-ish compound version, and the tread has just evaporated in any kind of highway use. The K2 would be a great trackday tire, but I wouldn't even touch the street with it. If you are looking for that kind of profile in a street-worthy tire, I just got an unbelievable (to me) 5K miles from a set of BT-003 R/S on my CR. They are also a max performance tire, and I expected them to vanish as well, but the multi-compound strip in the middle seems to be made of iron. I can't remember the last time I got 5K out of a set of tires. KeS | ||

Be careful, I noticed this recent review: " The only issue i have is tire manufactor date of 2004. It is 2010 now,that is a major concern of mine. I did not notice it until afer the fact of it being mounted. " Tires are said to have a 2-year shelf life before they start going downhill. |
