we put my buell x1 back together and started her up and there is a clacking noise near the rear cylinder push rods. also there is smoke coming out of where the exhaust connects to the rear cylinder. i need to know what we should do and if it is serious. thanks |

Did you replace the exhaust gaskets when you put the exhaust back on it? Also what were you fixing on the motor that had the engine apart? |

If its been apart for a while, a couple minutes to get the lifters pumped up (not clacking) is normal. Smoke at the header-to-head flange is normal if your hands were dirty when you put that gasket in Gotta burn out the oils! |

+1 on the lifters; they do bleed down, esp after the rocker arms have been removed. Start the bike, let it warm up for a minute or so, then do a GENTLE lap or two around the block. I short-shifted and kept my top speed to 35ish MPH for a trip of 2 miles or so, and all was well, when I had that situation. |
