Well a couple of months ago, I posted about how to get the Buell topcase mounting rack for the my Uly. That thread is archived, but I have some more info so I thought I would start a new thread for anyone who might be interested.

First, there was a problem getting the mounting rack, but not for any of the reasons I was originally told by some on here (they didn’t care about my VIN or whether I already had the side cases). I ordered the hardware on 3/17 at my local HD dealer (Perry’s HD-Buell in Kalamazoo). I have called every week since and it is still listed as “vendor direct” with no estimated delivery time. So this Friday when I called the dealer and was told it was not in yet I decided to call HD/Buell customer service. Customer service looked into and found that there was a problem on their (HD’s) end not the dealer’s. For some reason when the dealer placed the order, the order never made it to HD’s computer system, but the dealer was not aware of this problem since it showed up on their system. I asked the parts guy at the dealer about this and he said HD was having some computer problems around that time and a few orders did not make it through, but they did not know which ones. Slightly annoying, but not really a big deal since I got it resolved.

Secondly, the lady at customer service told me that the lead times on the two mounting rack pieces are 14 days for one piece and 30 days for the other. So, for anyone else thinking about buying these, that is the current lead time.

Here are the part numbers in case anyone is interested. I can’t remember which is 30 days out and which is 14 days out, but it shouldn’t really matter since they are both needed.

Bracket, Upper, Top case M0261.1AU – $142.70

Ulysses Top Case Mounting Bracket 92308-05Y - $65.00

Finally, as I mentioned above, neither the dealer nor customer service have asked for confirmation that I have the side cases mounted nor have they requested confirmation of my VIN. In my previous thread about this topic Ratbuell mentioned this would be required when the order reached SPOC (not sure what SPOC is though). It is very likely they will still require that info when the order actually makes it from the dealer to HD this time, but I am wondering if they even care about that now with Buell going away. Hopefully I will find out this week if they need any extra info. I also plan to follow-up with customer service just to make sure my order made it through this time.

I was really hoping to have the mounting rack in time for Homecoming since I already have an outdoorsman topcase I bought from a fellow badwebber. I am hoping the 30 day lead time is a conservative estimate and it will be in a few days earlier than that. If it is not in by then, I don’t think I will let it keep me from going to HC

Good info.

SPOC is Single Point Of Contact, or the dealers' contact to HD Parts. Depending on where in the process the order disappeared, it may not have gotten to the point where the "flag" would be raised and the "do you have sidecases" question would be asked. And...they may have "un-restricted" the part. Who knows.

I haven't heard anything back yet on the parts being restricted. I will need to call customer service to confirm the parts are on order now and there is no restriction.

So any updates Larryjohn? did the rack come in as ordered? Any issues to overcome? I'm looking to do the same thing as I have an original Buell top box that I'm currently using on another bike with a HB rack. It would be great if I could get double duty out of it.
