Ditto Rocketsprink, no matter who you are riding with just ride your own pace. They have to stop for gas sooner or later. : )

Seriously though, pushing yourself beyond your comfort level can easily result in tragedy. Be careful and you'll be hanging on their wheels in no time.

rocket

ya done good in following the advice of the voice in your head (mine sounds like Bill Cosby . . .. "You're going to Die"; )

the dragon will be a great opportunity for you to excersize your skills . . . let's get together before ya go, and I"ll show you somme other roads that are just as challanging, if not quite to technical . . . .lots of good rides in that area, not to mention the gorgeous scenery . . . I'll ride with you after the next meeting -- it'll be an ego boost, as I'm old and slow

Wise and Treacherous is more like it! At least when we are off riding. Then again, you are the most considerate, patient and polite instructor/mentor I have ever met.

I doubt very much that you'll find anyone in the club that will give you a hard time."

I just want to reinterate what Rocket said. We have a very diverse club in terms of levels of experience. We've got people that have been on bikes since the beginning of time to racers to the average street rider to people that are just getting onto a bike for the first time. In my time in the group I've never heard anyone ever give anyone else a hard time about whether or not they're "keeping up." None of us wants to see anyone get hurt by riding beyond where they're comfortable.

John, don't worry about whether or not you're staying right up tight to someone else, ride where you're comfortable. You're never going to lose the group, we make sure we've got everybody at each intersection. You did the right thing by riding within your limits. Any group that pressures you to do anything else is not a group that I'd want to ride in.

Just so everyone understands, I don't feel put upon or put down. I don't really think like that anyway. I didn't think or worry about others perception of my riding skill. I was more concerned with enjoying myself while still remaining safe.

I had a wake up call, but not in the tragic sense. It made me think about what I needed to do to get better and it won't keep me off the bike or out of rides with the club. I've already put on over 300 miles since that ride, and I'm still looking forward to the 15th.

I know that there is some risk involved with sport riding. Not a lot, but it's magnified with each additional degree of risk taking, which adds to the basic equation. As these circumstances compound so does the risk factor. Nothing is more dangerous than trying to ride past your abilities. Rocks, traffic, unfamiliar roads, oil slicks, rain and everything else combined can be handled with due diligence. But trying to do what you can't do, that's a guarantee for disaster.

Finally, no one in the club said anything or has been anything other than supportive. I figured that you guys up front would know that there was a break in contact and that you would slow down or stop before there was a major change of course. No one pushed me from behind or even tried to pass me to get better position and more speed.

JT -- consider a track day . . .. . . .the groups split into groups based on expertise and skill levels . . . . it's the most concentrated learning environment I've ever seen (outside of the military {grin}) . . . you won't ruin anyone's day, and you'll be able to practice your skills in the safeest possible environment . . . .serriously, bud, sign up!

I want to go, but I have to see if I can get off of work that weekend. I work two out of three weekends and it makes it hard to fit a lot of stuff in.

Very funny CJ : )

I've ordered the new handle bars yesterday.
Ribs don't hurt much anymore unless I sneeze: )
Hopefully have the bike up and running soon.
After all, next race is at the end of may!

Hey m2guy, I wasn't trying to make fun of you !!

I just seriously can't afford to drop/wreck my bike since I wrecked my car, at least until it's paid for in two years !!

Sure as I get on the track, I'll try to go too fast to keep up, get nervous, lock up my brakes, and lay it down !! Ask Bomber !!

CJ : )
