I was looking over the bike and found this. I know i will have to replace the belt, but is it ok to ride it to the dealer, or should i trailer it? Also, I noticed the side of the belt that is on the inside of the sprocket, by the wheel seems frayed, is this normal? The bike was wrecked, i am wondering if something got tweaked during the wreck.

A little bit of fraying on the edge of the belt similar to what you see on the left side is normal, but that huge gouge thats missing and the long stream on the right is not. That belt needs replacement, I would inspect everything including the axle and belt guards to see if anything is tweaked causing that. It is possible a rock got jammed in the belt guard and gouged the belt like that. |

With a belt looking like that, I'd be taking things apart, fast. Whatever is gouging your belt, isn't supposed to be there. My freeked out 2¢ Z Very cool hole, 4 words - belt guards are good. |

I would say something is wrong the guys above are on point with trash lodged somewhere but I see that on ether side of the hole is a wear line I would look at the idler pulley and make sure it is turning freely and the bearings are good. |

A consistent "fraying" along the length of the belts is normal. Belts are made in sheets, and cut into strips...so some of the fiber weave "fraying" along the edges is normal. The "dent" gouge is not. Gouges in general are bad. And belt guards are GOOD. They bounce stuff out of the way before they cause that sort of damage (and having them in place upholds your warranty - and a $200-250 belt replacement cost). |

i understand the gouge is not normal, that is just a rock or something random. What i'm worried about is the fraying on the right side. The left side looks great, but the right side is obviously frayed badly. I just wondered if that fraying on the right is normal for the 1125, or if something on mine is tweaked. |

No its not, my guess is either something it out of alignment causing something to continuously rub and cut into the belt, or again more debris jammed under a guard doing it. |

+1 on belt guards. I took them off my track bike, and doing some tire testing I shredded a soft Pirelli. The result was a lot of that hot rubber ending up getting smeared and "rubbed into" the pulley's cogs. What a PITA cleaning that out. Why clean it? Because believe or not, it was making the belt too tight and noisy! No damage to the bike, but an hour of my life I'd like to get back. |

I much prefer the looks without the guards. Now have over 12,000 miles on my XB. Removed all the guards the day I got her home. Belt and pulley are still mint. Did the same with the CR. Only 600 miles so too early to tell if larger pulley more prone to damage however belt and pulley still mint. I don't track so won't/don't have the issues Jdugger has. Interesting if OP sustained belt damage while using all guards. Just another data point. YMMV, Nels |

I have not removed the belt guards yet, but it looks like they don't protect the belt very well, as i only have 1600 miles on it. I guess I will keep them on so the belt can be warrantied, I don't want to pay $200 for the belt. I have to take it in for the clutch fix and charging harness, so i will just add this to the list.
