Chris,

Sorry I didn't call. I have to go to Pewaukee tomorrow for some job stuff and I am going to ride the bike if it gets above 55 then. Talk to you soon. You are coming to the crud run, right??? You could stop by here on the way (we are down by Camp Randall).

Bads, ANY help you can give will be GREATLY appreciated. As long as the quality is similar, I'm open to any suggestions. Post or send an e-mail. Due to the vacation schedule this summer including a trip all set in stone to the "Dragon" any money saved will save me grief from the wife!

I will be at the Dragon August 4,5,6,7 & 8. Anyone else care to go? All kinds of places to stay, and fairly cheap if you do your homework. I found a 2 bdrm, 2 bthrm, fireplace, Sat. T.V., right on the Dragon, I believe about 2 miles away for $85.00 per nite for 4 people NOT per person. I look forward to it, and will let you all know if it was worth it. I'll bet it will be. But the only way to know is to go. I have my 4 people, but I say make it a Ukes Brag run! According to
"Mapquest" it's about an 11 hour drive. Not too bad. I'm trailering the bike due to other people driving with me and there's room on the trailer.

Hello fellow Buell owners. Well I am now the owner of a 2001 X1, and I have the saddle sores to prove it. I thought only hard tails were uncomfortable, on long rides. Well I put a few miles on the bike (rode the piss out of it). Sorry I missed the meeting, I warmed up the bike turned North out of the sub-division on to 104th, I came up on 60th, and the bike kept going North. Lets see.. Left at the airport and ride till it’s too dark to see…

Now …I Did the cold, the rain, cold rain, sun, and no sun. Well , I rode the piss out of it.
I also found that if your 6’ 3” +/- the bike is a tight fit.

Oh and the kid drove up to ride with Dad late on Saturday. We made it to Geneva to catch the first rain cloud. Rode back in the rain and cold, and she was tucked in tight. My little girl loved it! Daddy’s little girl . Now she is looking to trade up from her CB750 to a Blast.

Well I hope the bike finds it way to the next meeting. See you all then. Was that a right or a left at 60th???????? Left at the lake???? Why is there a lake here?
Hope I can find UKE's

After this weeks ride I'm pretty sure that I am no where near ready for The Dragon. Following Wes like that gave me a Supreme Moment Of Clarity. God himself was talking to me and saying, "If you ever want to see that daughter your wife has cooking, You'd better slow the hell down." I listened.

I knew I was in trouble when Don and Yellow split and left me behind Wes and Jason...

In better news...

I did manage to ride 280 miles today. I went up to Appleton via the slab to pick up my manual and to get a nice R&R ride in. The wind wasn't bad at all and Dave was very cool. I stuck around for about an hour and made it back to Milwaukee in time to have lunch with Becki.

The S3T was just hummin' it was the first time that I was able to do any real riding on a very warm day. The engine was far happier and my gas milage impoved to 52MPG.

We should have a good time on the next month, it sounds like Dave is going to have some cool stuff for us Buellers.

Later,
JT

Impulse, a bit of advice. DO NOT worry about who you can and can not keep up with. Ride at your own pace. That's how people get hurt! No one wants to see that happen. Anyone who has been to the Dragon and anyone with a brain who is going knows that down there that is a ticket to the meat wagon. I'm far from the most skilled rider, but I do know my limits and ride within them. I raced motocross growing up and have had a bike pretty much non stop since I was 7. I was behind you that nite with Wes and you looked just fine. I doubt very much that you'll find anyone in the club that will give you a hard time. Hell, I rode alone most of the time on the streets and when racing, you're trying to get ahead of everyone, so this "Group Riding" is fairly new to me too! With getting to know your bike, miles you put on and it sounds like your doing that! And with better weather ( Some century ) the speed will come. And if you do it correctly, you won't even notice it!

Rocket,
I think that it's the best advice that anyone could ever give or get. The reason that I looked anywhere near fine was because I decided that it would be a good idea to not ride beyond my still meager limits.

Oddly enough it was what I did right that opened my eyes up to what I could have done wrong. I was coming up to a corner a little faster than I should have and Wes and Jason had already disapeered into the next set of twisties. I had the impulse to hit the throttle and catch up but I didn't act on it. Instead, I let off the throttle and let the engine breaking work for me. As I came around that turn a car came the other direction and he was on the center line and going as fast as we were but in the other direction.

The adrenalin hit me like someone had shot ice into my veigns and I the immediate "What if?" resulted in that "Moment Of Clarity". For the rest of the ride I heard nothing in my head other than "Never, Never, Never, Never ride beyond your abilities."

On the plus side I also had an epiphany concerning counter steering, body position and staying loose while cornering. Which was a big boost to my riding skill. I went to my own private Battletrax course (Cliffside Park Campground)and practiced it yesterday and I put it to good use on todays little ride.

And in another note since I hit send too early again...

Dave, Thank You. It was a real pleasure to meet you and talk bikes and BadWeb for a while. It also gave me a chance to enjoy a nice ride. Which made a today feel like a real day off instead of just switching from working at work to working on my house for a change. You can expect more business in the future.

Yesterday was Lake, today was Impulse, had a couple other local Buellers stop in today too.
Just wait til the open house!

I watched Dave set up the suspension on an XB9S and it blew my mind to see what was going on under the seat of that bike. I had no idea of what what was going on under the hood of an XB until then but I was really impressed.

B.T.W. You know Dave's cool because he carries a Buell Suspension Settings chart in his wallet.

Well you just never know when I'll find a XB rider that their dealer didn't set up the suspension for them when they picked it up.
That's the 3rd one I've done in 2 weeks.
