My '06 Uly has developed a bearing noise in the transmission, and I'm afraid it'll die on the way to Homecoming. So...I'm thinking of swapping engines with my other '06 Uly "parts bike" (totaled on a deer at 55,000 miles). Has anyone removed an XB engine? I've had the heads and cylinders off, so I'm familiar with wrenching on these things. I'm mainly concerned about any unusual tools, tricks, tips, etc. that might save me some headaches. mine is sitting on the workbench as we speak (see Case splitting thread), removing the Xb motor is pretty simple and straight forward, tearing it down to every last nut and bolt a little more time consuming (for me). Use the manual and you cant go wrong. | ||

what he said. I've swapped engines in my race bike in a few hours by myself. As long as you have a service manual. No special tools required. | ||

Dr Greg- I build all our race bikes, I hang the frame from garage ceiling with tiedowns, unbolt the engine with the service manual as a guide for torque values and sequences. The swingarm is attached to the engine so you could just swap the engine/swingarm if you have your other bike there. That would be very quick to do, lift the frame off and exchange them. | ||

i assembled this in a few hours, a few years ago after hauling it across the country to my house in boxes...   its alot easier then most people think, although im not looking forward to the day i rip the motor out of one of my 1125's lol the fact that you will have 2 to look at always helps. | ||

You can do it in a day easily! But it will go much faster if you have a second set of hands to help you lift.You could chock the front tire and place a jck under the motor. Dis assemble from the rear wheel forward, disconnect the mounts and wires have buddy lift the frame as you remove the motor. |
