im helping add another rider to the family. a riding pal has an immaculate 05 R6 Raven with 16K miles and has found someone actually willing to trade heads up his 05 XB9 with 3K miles. the thumper is showroom condition and bone stock including the 'grater. the R6 has a Yoshi slip on, woodcraft rear-sets, tinted windscreen (for what its worth), and lots of other misc woodcraft billet. honestly, i feel like the R6 is worth more than the thumper and some cash or other compensation should be considered. but how much does the millage play into it. let me know what you guys think so i can pass it along. what can he expect out of the 05 as far as problems or glitches?

Depends on how bad he wants the buell. If he feels it is a good even-up trade then he should go for it.

r6 is a great bike and a good trade ,it depends on who owned each bike and how it was treated, if either bike was owned by a young guy from 18-25yrs. old I would pass on it and keep the better treated bike

The R6 is definately worth more as it does perform better, depending on what you are looking for. Make sure your friend knows there's a HUGE power difference.

I have a XB12S and a 1125R. My friend has a CBR 600RR and sucks the head lights off the XB. I love the XB as it was my dream bike for yrs. Just saying, let him know so he's not disappointed.

I ride XB9 with 600cc rice regularly and if kept under 90mph I dont see any headlight sucking going on. What street can you reasonably ride over 90mph anyway. The XB9 in the twisties makes me look like a better rider than I really am. I say its a fair trade indeed.

You could advise him that he might get more money for his bike, but truthfully if he is happy with an even up trade, that's his choice. Tell him to look at what machines similar to his are currently selling at (not asking prices, really selling) and see what he thinks. The 05Xb9 is probably only good for about $4000.

He should ride the XB and probably let the other guy ride his at the same time so that both can be certain of what they are doing, condition being that if you crash it you buy it.

The ONLY concern would be that so often the I4 600 class bikes have been ridden hard and put away wet - not maintained well by young-ish kids.

That being said, the 05 should be a good trade straight across assuming it hasn't been abused.

The 05 has the newer suspension. (05 was first year of the "good" suspension)

Might want to look into insurance too. He may get raped with that R6.

His friend is ditching the r600 for the buell, so even if the r6 has been beaten to death he doesn't care just as long as the Buell is in good shape.

The R6 is worth more. I've seen '05-'06 R6's for sale lately with prices averaging about $5500 for well-kept examples with usually around 5K - 7K or so. Not sure how the extra mileage would devalue your buddy's bike. In any case, I'd say the R6 is worth at least $1K more. More than that I bet.

Trading does avoid the hassle of selling his bike and locating an clean XB for sale, though. Frankly, he could probably find someone willing to trade an '08 or up XB for that R6.

When I was Firebolt shopping there were plenty of lines 600-1k in my range I paid for 9r....

Those rice rockets only faster in the straights. Revving for power isn't fun on the street either.

he's 21 and isnt at all abusive on the R6, no burn-outs, no banging it off the rev limiter, no stunts, only a few wheelies every now and then. never dropped though. when i say it's immaculate, it's an understatement. his is by far the upper class of bikes. we switch up rides often so he knows what he's gettin with a thumper, and he really wants one. he honestly feels like he's stealing the buell in this trade...thats how bad he wants one. i think he's tired of that R6 gettin lost in the crowd, no matter how nice or clean it is. my thumper go more attention at Road Atl this weekend even after flat trackin around some dirtroads all day friday. saturday we're gonna meet up with the thumper and cruise so each can know what he's gettin. anybody around Madison, GA wanna get in on the fun saturday?

taking the miles into account I think it is a fair trade. the woodcraft stuff may push the R6 to a higher value than the Buell so maybe trading the parts back out to stock before the trade would still be fair in IMO and then he could put them up on ebay using the precedes to put cool parts on his new buell ; )

but both parties are happy with the trade I would say that none of it matters. : D

"if either bike was owned by a young guy from 18-25yrs. old I would pass on it and keep the better treated bike"

<- 23 year old male.
Guess that means my bikes are neglected lemons?

I would focus a lot more on the mechanical knowledge of the current XB9 owner rather than his age. An R6 and an XB9 are both high performance sport bikes; it's safe to assume that they have been ridden as such. As long as both owners have maintained their bikes properly, a history of being ridden hard shouldn't be an issue.

loved reading this article about me...for the record whoever made the smart comment of me being btwn the ages of 18-25 ..i am ..thanks..im 21 years old and probably take better care of the 4 bikes i currently own and the other streetbikes and motocross bikes iv owned than you do...that being said i made the trade straight up and probably wasnt a "fair" trade money wise due to the amount i put in parts etc to the R6 and how much the R6 would resell for..but im not doing this for money im doing it for the enjoyment of riding ...i absolutely LOVE the buell and wouldnt change the fact i traded..it saved the pain of dealing with bullshit on CL and what not then trying to find a good buell like i did...3k miles on an 05 ..BONE STOCK ...couldnt pass that one
up

anywhoo glad i can be a part of the buellers now!

Welcome to the good side. No worries on age thing mang, you know how us under early 20's kids are. The nuts give us a bad name, unfortunetly there's a lotta nuts ; ) Thats why not ONE of my friends will ever take my bike out for a ride. They can keep their Gixxas and such, no one rides my Buell.

Welcome! Knowledge forum + XBoard and you're set to go mang.

Way to go on the trade. It took me a year to find an 05 XB12R with low miles that wasn't touched. Best bike I've ever owned. For some odd reason, it gets more miles than any other bike I have ever had too............
Welcome!

Well as I said above, as long as you are happy with the deal that is really all the matters. Be glad it is bone stock, I spent a lot of time and a lot of swearing getting mine back to that point (and a bit of money too).

That's the problem with a bunch of add on and upgrade stuff, they are really only valuable if the other guy wants the same things that you put on. If they don't the buying could be adding up what it would cost to put it back and start deducting from the offer.

So is it an S or an R?

Check the exhaust studs, they've been known to crack when the muffler comes loose.

The google Badweb works better, actually it is the only one that works at all for me. The other search gives me a completely blank page everytime.
