My 12000+ mile '07 XB9R started making some god-awful noises coming from the primary/crank area of the engine some 250 or so miles ago. Seems to be getting worse and makes a Duc dry clutch sound nice. Thinking it might be the infamous loose nut I opened up the primary (first time-not hard at all w/the manual) and all seemed okay visually and could not detect and play anywhere. Would there be if the nut was loose? Do not have the required torque wrench/socket so I just buttoned her up, set the chain tension and the noise is getting worse...engine runs fine, vibration is not any worse than normal at tickover or at speed and fueling is excellent. Looks like I should open her up again and check the torque on the nut? Any other areas to look at? Oh, sorry to ramble, what is the socket size that I need to check the nut? Thanks. If it was loose enough to make noise, wouldn't it cause damage to the cover or some other area on the case? Could it be a magnet come loose in the alternator? (which still requires that socket) |

Got it...1 1/8, used the search function! Hope the issue is not a $eriou$ one. |
