In my airbox and air filter. Not a lot but there is film all over. There is also oil on the air filter. Upon further inspection I found oil on the back side of the inner head. I have a film of oil on the cooling fan, the suspension spring and motor mount. It is hard to see the top of the back cylinder but I definitely see a film of oil on the cooling fins.

Anyone have any ideas what this could be?

Forgot to add:

07 XB12s with 5,000 miles on the clock. I recently changed the oil (500 miles ago) and the oil level is in the middle of the checkered pattern on the dipstick.

Did you check the level with the engine warmed up?

Have you ever done a breather reroute? I had oil film in my airbox from what was regularly coming out of the breather at 5000 mi (05 XB12R). Did you buy it brand new? I suppose I don't know enough history to help. Clean it off, go do 100mi, and check to see where it might be coming from. I have a small water drain hole in the back of my lower air box. If the oil came out there, from the breather, I think it would be headed in the right direction to coat the rear cylinder.

I bought the bike brand new. I do not have the breather re-route done, however it is on my to-do list. I will clean it up tomorrow and go from there. The bike is still under warranty so worst case scenario will be to take it in.

With oil on the top of the cylinder and back to the fan I would probably bring it in for a check. From what I've read the most common leak that gets the fan covered is the rocker box.

As far as oil in the airbox, there seems to be some consistency with dealers over filling the oil which then pumps through the breathers and into the airbox.

If your dealer is a decent place, they will take a look at it for free. If you bought it someplace else then it might not be so smooth.
