I rode on the back of my buddies FZ6 to get mine and I didn't want to make him ride slow on the way home 100 miles so it pretty much got the motoman break in. Great pics from your ride home. |

Hey Ogre, I have a 2010 XT as well. I bought it after riding a Harley for the last six years. I am curious as to what it is you don't like about it. I don't want to debate or argue your complaints with you, I am just curious. This board attracts Buell enthusiasts first and then every now and then a Buell hater. It is hard to get objective opinions from either group (is there such a thing as an objective opinion?). I will say that since I bought my Buell in October I have ridden my Harley exactly one time. In fact, I was noticing last night how much dust it had on it and was worried the gas had gone bad in it, so I thought I'd better take it out this weekend to knock the dust off of it. Anyway, what is it about the XT you are unhappy with? There may be a way to fix the situation so you are happier with the bike. Regardless, best of luck to you. |

Woah. That is a quicker turn around then my '06 Sporty I bought. I traded in my '04 Lighting 12 for a '06 Sportster 883R, had the 1200 cylinders and pistons installed, rode it for 2 months and 5500 miles and promptly traded it back in for a 2006 Ulysses which I still have to this day. I thought that two months and thousands of dollars down the drain was the fastest. I guess you will beat me for speed but I bet you come out way better on $$$ than I did. Shocked you don't like the bike but everyone is different so can't knock ya there. It is a nice one though! |

I am far from a Buell hater, but I don't love the bike and I desperately want to. I recently came off a 650 V-strom which did absolutely nothing wrong, but was not particularly exciting either. I thought I could deal with the uniqueness of the Buell to get a more exciting ride. While the Buell runs 70-80+ better than the Strom I just cant find a groove that works in the 50-65 range where the Strom was flawless. The Buell is vibby and/or snatchy/surgy in that range in either 5th or 4th gear. I run in that range every day back/forth to work and most times that I am on the road with other cars in this area. Running at the 70+ range where the Buell comes in to its groove will net me a ticket. In fact I find when I ride the buell in a manner where I am really enjoying it, I am breaking the speed limit and/or flying up on traffic. My KTM 640 Adventure is a lot like this too, it wants to be RIDDEN. I can get away with it as there are very few cops in the forest and I generally stay away from town on it or pavement in general. I also thought I could deal with the shaking/vibes at idle, but I'll admit I am embarrassed every time I fire the bike up or stop. I cant tell you how many people have asked me whats wrong with my new bike. I want to be proud of my new bike, now I hope no one sees me arrive or leave work. I live in straight flat boring Florida. I think if I lived where the roads were more entertaining I could deal with these things better as I would get to enjoy the things the Buell does do well. |

What about the XB9 primary swap, it should bring the "groove" to a lower speed. |

I had an SV650 for six years,the smoothest engine of any m/c I've had. Were you not embarrassed by the looks of the Strom? |

The bike isn't broken in yet, it settles down once you get some miles on it. |

Sounds like that bike is messed up in a subtle way. Mine loves 45-60 in 4th and 5th gear. Perhaps just not broken in yet? |

Thanks guys, but I am not the type to mod bikes, particularly new ones. I don't think anything is wrong with the bike. From what I have read here the vibes/surges are probably just the nature of this bike. They are not terrible, in fact they are pretty minor. However I guess I am just too used a bike that had none at all. I have reduced the price in classifieds to $9000 if anyone is interested. Hey Ogre, best of luck selling your bike. It is interesting to me what people like/don't like in a bike. I had a Harley (still do actually) before I bought my Buell, so the shaking thing doesn't bother me at all. I really don't notice it, but I know it is there. I am just used to it. My main complaint about the shaking is that I can't rest things on the seat while the bike warms up because they vibrate off. Still, no one has ever asked me if there was anything wrong with my bike. Maybe because most of my friends ride Harleys so they are used to it too. I also felt like my bike had surging issues as well the first month or two. I haven't felt a surge in a good while. I guess they went away on their own. But, hey, if you don't like the bike, you just don't like it. What are you planning to try next? |

Dynasport, I honestly dont know. I tried a BMW GS and it was too HUGE, ungainly and I just can not justify the cost. I like the big 950/990 KTM's but know that I cant afford to maintain 2 KTM's, nor do I want to. Low (and easy) maintenance was a very high point for me on the Buell. I right now, I think I will buy another 650 Strom, but I do want to try to score a test ride on a Kawasaki Versys. (Message edited by ogre_fl on May 10, 2010) |

Ogre, Wait a little while, rumors abound that Triumph will be introducing a 675-800cc version of the Tiger soon. The Triumph triple is the sweetest motor in motorcycledom in my opinion. And it has "character" that the V-Strom (a very capable machine to be sure) can only dream about. Speaking of dreaming, I dream of my old Triumph 885 Triple in a Uly chassis.... |

I test rode a 1200 GS and was underwhelmed personally, but I know many love them. I also test rode the BMW 800 and I personally found the buzziness way more unpleasant than the vibes on the Uly. But, to each his own. Maybe the 650 Strom is the right bike for you. For me, the more I ride my XT, the more I like it. |

Just to show I am not all doom & gloom I finally got some positive comments on the bike. I rode my oldest son to Scouts on it last night. He really liked the bike, particularly the triple tail. Said he felt very safe and I was able to ride more aggressively than I usually do with him on a bike. We did a 3rd gear pass of a truck on the rural road to town and he really enjoyed the PULL that the bike has without the fear of falling off the back (me too). I dont know if it was the added load, the cooler night air or the more aggressive riding but the bike felt better to me too. We did break the speed limit everywhere, but it was a fun ride. |
