I was reading the top of this thread and someone mentioned Band-Aids. You'll need these when you take off the stock brackets that hold the footrests (dementia prevents me from using the proper name). I think this is the Blast's only truly horrible design feature - and it's a doozy. | ||

Hello. I am a new Blast owner. I have a 1991 Blast and am loving it. I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice on how to loosen the Handlebar Clamp Screw, without stripping the screw itself. I appreciate your time. I have learned so much already by reading through this forum and look forward to contributing in any way I can (although my motorcycle and mechanic skill/knowledge is somewhat lacking). | ||

Welcome to the Thumper forum Rhedtee! The screws, there are four of them use an allen wrench to tighten or loosen them. It is a pretty straight forward operation, as all you need is the proper sized allen wrench and you turn it left(counter-clockwise) to loosen it. What are you attempting to do if I may ask? | ||

Thank you for the welcome Swampy! It appears I came across as a complete moron on my first post. I'm using the proper size Allen wrench and seem to be stripping the screw slightly. I just didn't know if the screws were notorious for being tough, having softer metal, or maybe I was being a wus. | ||

If the allen wrench is rounding out the allen socket, try grabbing the outside of the screw head with a small pair of vice grips, rocking it back and forth to get a little bite and to loosen them up. Dang, I missed an opportunity to make fun of someone...LOL I have a co-worker, a big time daily pot user, he is hyper critical, skeptical and slightly paranoid. He is always finding fault with everything anyone does or says no matter how innocous it is, I am trying to make things better for everybody. | ||

PS try all the screws. You really only need to get 2 loose to adjust the bars and if 2 are loose, the rest should come easy. And I dont think you came across as a moron, but you wouldnt be the first person to be sold something that wasnt what it was supposed to be. | ||

Tank cover and gas tank: 3/8" socket or wrench Wire cutters (for cutting off zip tie that holds the gas tank vent hose on or for cutting that hose) Large screwdriver (for prying off rubber tank hold downs). Small screwdriver (for fuel line hose clamp). | ||

I've had good luck removing the rubber hold downs with a 4 inch 1x2 and a rubber mallet. Mine were stuck on pretty tight, and the screwdriver just didn't work. | ||

Well, mines 30" and 1/2" wide. After you pull them off, lubricate the pins with grease before you put the rubber hold downs back on. You'll need a much smaller screwdriver to pull them off the next time (or none at all)! The tank panel would hold them in if you were worried about them sliding out (which they wont). | ||

I found a cool tool to change my spark plug easily and without taking off the gas tank or nuthin'..lol. I picked up a set of these Gearwrenches at Walmart for $30 or so and they are perfect for easily putting the plug in and pulling it out. http://www.gearwrench.com/catalog/wrenches/ratchet ing/combination/ The 5/8" slips over the plug and offers enough grip of the hex of the plug to get it right out. The ratchet is very smooth and works great. I was under there before with my regular combination wrenches and maybe I'm an idiot or something, but I couldn't get a good purchase on the plug to get it out. I tried a bunch of different things but nothing was easy as this. Highly recommended and I bet they're NOT $30 wherever you are..probably more like $22. It's the "Paradise Tax".... | ||

Kauai1800, I use one of those as well. I actually carry it in my saddle bag since I got stranded on the side of the road twice due to the spark plug. Now I just need to find one the right size for the Primary nut. | ||

so...i decided to take advantage of the nice weather today to replace the 4 cheap philips pan head screws that hold the bowl on the carb. i knew it was only a matter of time before they'd strip. i was right. 2 of them stuck in there now!!! any hints except pulling off the whole carb & drilling them out? | ||

well the dremel worked but not without still taking off the carb first. gave me a chance to take care of a couple other things though so i'll chalk it up to fate ;P thanks EZ | ||
