I got the idea in my head that I want to have the wheels on my barricade orange Uly painted to match the plastics. I think I'm going to buy an extra set of wheels rather than painting mine. I have a few questions:

1.) Is anyone running regular XB wheels on a Uly? I don't see much of a problem because I rarely ride offroad. Would wheels from an 03 XB9 fit my 09 Uly?

2.) How do I get the paint code to match? Is there a source for it somewhere?

3.) Should I get them painted or powder coated? Are the OEM's painted or powder coated?

1, Yes. The reinforcing on the Uly rims doesn't seem to help based on my personal experience. All XB and 1125 rims will fit.

2, No paint codes

3, Power coated, they come from the factory that way.

Your best bet for coloring matching is to go to a paint supplier and have them match the color for you and then have them powder coated. The paint supplier should be able to get a great match for ya.

I don't have a color code for it. I matched it based on tinting a close color. Ford put an orange on the Mustangs in '08-'09 that is very close. I would think that you could use it basically off the shelf without tinting. I do not have that color code, sorry.

The factory powder coat on the rims makes an excellent adhesion base for urethane paint. If the surfaces have no damage on them, they can be prepped by disassembly, wet sand with a scotch brite pad in warm water with Dawn plain dish soap. Just prior to painting wipe it down with mineral spirits on a lint free cloth.

I gave them a light coat of clear adhesion promoter and a couple coats of single stage urethane color.

Been on there three years this month, ridden year round, probably 35,000 miles since it was done.

Um....Froggy? I believe the Buell ad literature said the reinforcing would help on trails. And with rocks. And potholes. Nothing about automotive back bumpers ; )
