so im debating on investing into getting some nice low bars, hids, and some levers, buttt i would like some more performance i want some more torque. i have an 03 xb9s its already has some nice body upgrades but i want some more power. what is a cheap way to get more torque before i go and get some lights, bars, and levers.. |

what is a cheap way to get more torque? you can get more torque, but it's gonna cost ya. re-gearing might be the cheapest option. it won't actually make any more torque, but it'll sure feel like it! a re-mapped/race ECM will put some #'s down. a couple hundo from Erik Buell Racing a micron system would be nice to find. again, not cheap. several on here have fitted turbo's to an XB. pretty serious $-wise. nitrous is always an option, but it can have detrimental effects. and lastly; ever heard of the "white wire mod"? free, but results are argueable. don't hesitate to get the HID's from DDMtuning.com less than a new set of conventional sylvania lightbulbs, so there'll be enuff left over for motor mods. |

breather re-route also very cheep way to get a bit more low end response, also arguable but for the money why not? |

The only cheap way to get more torque is to get rear ended by a semi. You can get some minor gains with the ECM/intake/exhaust, but nothing really worth mentioning. You could tear apart the motor and do a 1150 or 1340cc setup. |

What is your purpose - an engine with more power or a faster bike; the two are different. If you want a faster bike, then invest in the rider, not the bike. Take a riding class (I highly recommend Keith Code's). I have seen bikes with HALF the power and 10 years less technology kick a$$ over the latest sportbikes. If you want more power, then you first NEED to know how much you are willing to spend. Only then can a person recommend what performance mods to do. |

ok thanks alot u guys i guess i have alot on my plate then. i no i have an open airbox already which is cool. ive done the white wire mod already but i didnt really notice any difference. i want more torque i dont mind about the top end. i was thinking like a chain conversion kit and then getting a bigger sprocket thats just like my first thought. any input on that?? ideally i would love to get just a bigger sprocket for my belt but i no those are very pricy so any input on that as well?? |

Find an XB12 motor to drop in the chassis. There are several on ebay and craigslist for 800-900 plus shipping if you're not close to the seller. Marginal increase in HP with substantial gain in torque. Want more "felt" torque, put the primary gears/chain from your 9 into the 12. |

The 9 primaries are geared lower than the 12s. This will give you more low end power, but you will lose top end speed. |

What about putting a XB12 crankshaft assembly in it? Here is a forum on the topic: http://badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/3842/37 7171.html?1253972306 The XB12 stroke would give you around a 20% gain in torque. There is no doubt that 14 extra ft-lbs is a large gain. 1st and 2nd gear power wheelies yeah! |

Froggy,as Eric Buell once said "All engines are air-cooled" Think about it!!! And if YOU have to make-up for lack of riding skill with horespower, that's O.K!!! |

Lol! Boys and their air cooled toys One of the things I love about my little 9, is the way it embarrasses the liquid cooled gang Honestly Migs, if you can afford it, upgrade the suspension, and take a class or two. That combo right there will make you F.A.S.T fast! |

The breather change will give more power...........in what universe? I think the reason it works is that there is more room in the combustion chamber for fuel mix, that is normally occupied by the splooge being dumped in there. I didn't get more power, but a smoother throttle response. |

Best way to improve power-to-weight ratio is leave the bike alone and go on a diet/exercise program. Best way to get more speed out of your bike is to take a track school. |

Keith Code's class are among the best and are a great way to transition to "open track" days. http://www.superbikeschool.com/ |
