Well I rode the bike to work today and all is looking good. The great news was the first day I ride it freaking rains.

The noise is not as bad as before in fact at a light I didnt even hear it making the noise or maybe I just dont care anymore.

After putting the engine back in my bike I cant hit 100 mph if I did it would be pushing it. Maybe I adjusted the throttle cable wrong not sure. I rode the bike for 20 miles or so at under 3000 rpms. then the bike rested for about 9 hrs and I started to ride and I tried to slowly gain speed but it had a hard time reaching 80mph let alone anything more while in 5th gear.

any suggestions? Maybe TPS

Or a leak in the intake gaskets?

Bummer dude...that sucks.

Did you put new rings on? If you did and they haven't seated properly yet, you would probably notice a loss in power.

Other than that...i'm out of guesses

I found a chaffed spark plug wire could this be the issue causing my problem?

as long as you have at least 160 psi compression the bike should do at least a 100mph. Plug wires can cause alot of problems though.

XB9rnutt,

The guy at the shop took some measurements and found that everything was in spec. The only problem he notices was a little scaring on the rear cylinder exhaust cam lobe. He thinks a lifter failed at some point. I noticed the scaring on the cam but it was so minor I put it in the back of my mind. Oh well. New lifters, cams, piston rings and a few other bits are on the way.

I didn't make out on the price as good as you did though...I'm still in amazement at how little you paid for that. These guys took $500 to measure everything, clean my pistons and cylinder heads, de-glaze my cylinders and replace my case bearings. Mind you everything was torn down and I didn't have them put anything back together. Harley sucks.

I should be back on the road next week.

Did you ever figure out your speed issue?

Pat,
I hope that takes care of it. So did they say that the bearings looked bad at all?

Mine still has some noise that I dont like, not knocking like previously but there.

The funny part is I took it to the shop that did the work and let them listen since they never heard it run. And the first thing he said was it sounded like something with the cams. He said if it was his bike to change the oil look for any metal shavings. If nothing then dont worry about till winter then if still is driving be crazy do something then.

AS far as my speed issue goes it appears the main problem is the spark plug wire after I moved it away from the frame it is doing fine. The new plug wire just came in today.

Good Luck

No...nothing wrong with the bearings. I just had him change them because the case was split already.

Did you have those guys check your cam bushings for service limits? I agree that you should check your oil for shavings...you will probably want to cut your oil filter in half to see if you have any shavings in there as well.

Glad you got the speed issue all worked out.
