Hi all Saturday The wife and I got ready for a nice long ride for lunch and drinks. After start up the check engine light stayed on. Rode to the dealer and the bike ran fine. It turned out to be the exhaust actuator is shot, they think it's wiring but I know better. So should I stock up on these or do you think I just a bad one? 08XT 9200 miles |

some where along the line they changed the exhaust actuator. Something about replacing a nylon gear with a metal one or something? If someone else knows the dates of change I also would like to know. |

They revised the actuator, the old ones have plastic gears, the new ones are metal and should last longer. No need to stock up. It should be covered under your warranty. |

I tested mine this weekend. Hold the throttle wide open and turn on the key while watching the lever on the muffler. It works! |

I had one replaced and it lasted 2 weeks. Since it stuck open and I liked the sound I left it alone till snow fall then I took it in and they would not replace it. I called Buell customer service and they authorized it. The new one had the updated metal gears in it. No problem since. Since dealers rarely stock Buell parts it's pretty safe that you'll get a good one. |

my 09 actuator went bad after 2400mi. replaced under warranty. if it breaks out of warranty I will not fix. I will just keep the cable in the open position. It sounds cooler. no felt power difference. they say its to get the most out of the power band. I think its just to keep the EPA happy. when it broke i forced it open and rode that way for couple weeks waiting for the part. (Message edited by oldwesterncowboy on May 03, 2010) |
