I was out riding yesterday with a buddy of mine. I had the newer Buell tall at the top position on my Madstad. I was really noticing the beating my helmet was taking. I switched bikes with him and his BMW 1200 with no windscreen was just smooth clean air. What a difference. When I got back on the Uly I noticed he had moved my windshield all the way down. It was much better. I think I may put the stock small screen back on my Madstad. I'm 6'2" with 34" inseam. |

I never understood windshields +1 The Uly feels great without the windshield (I have a Zero Gravity), and I prefer to ride without it from late fall until about now. I need to mount it during the spring and summer, otherwise I'll snare an unimaginably impressive number of bugs in my mesh jacket. |

'08 XT - I'm 5'8", 30" inseam, too. same head buffeting / noise problem. Without earplugs the noise was deafening with the stock windscreen. I had a Vega modular helmet which I think lends itself to noise with all the gaps in the shell. My first attempt to solve the noise/buffeting issue was to find a better helmet. After a lot of research, I settled on the Shark RSI. Being non-modular eliminated some of my problem, but the aerodynamic design played a big part, too. However, I discovered by accident one day that by standing up on the pegs at highway speed the noise and buffeting essentially disappeared. I promptly removed the windscreen and lo and behold, problem solved. There's no buffeting and very little noise with earplugs. Without earplugs the noise is bearable. I covered the holes with black plastic discs (rtv'd on). The only slight issue now is more chest pressure trying to force me back and more exposure to cold, as i found out this morning (50 deg. F). But I'll live with that if it means no buffeting and little noise. |

Just to clarify - little noise as in wind. I can still hear the rumble of my Special O.P.S. and much better now. |

I had to think a minute about guys that don't like windshields. One of my first bikes in the '60's, a Norton Atlas came with a windshield, I took it off before I took the bike home. It took another 30 years to change my mind. Now I wouldn't ride without one. I'm slightly more mature now. Maybe. |
