My neighbor has one of those big Yamaha's, Warrior?, and he thinks he can take me for the first thirty feet because his bike will be easier to launch. He has a significant power to weight disadvantage, but just to be safe I want to make sure I can launch mine right. As noted in the wheelie thread, the trick is in keeping the front wheel on the ground. I have done a few real hard rolling starts in first gears and was rewarded by pulling the front wheel at around 8K RPM. I have yet to try a real hard launch from dead stop and want to minimize my 30 and 60 ft times. An obvious key is keeping your body as far forward as possible. But I am curious to know what the good launch RPM, and other techniques, are on a tire that has not been intentionally heated? |

Would be hard to win a 60 ft race with a stock R as it will want to wheelie. Sure it can be done if you try hard enough |

I'm no pro by any means but, when I launch hard I slip the clutch till I am rolling and I can keep the front mostly down. Coming from personal experiance because I owned a Warrior be for my R the Warrior is quick, best I got out of it in the quarter was mid 11's, but I think once you figure out the sweet spot to keep the front end down the warrior won't stand a chance. |

Still think your neighbor s correct. He will smoke you at 30 and 60 ft. Once your front end comes down thou its all over. |

just in street launching some of my buddies have hd's with similar nbrs that the warrior puts down its pretty even |

Hate to say it but they're right. You simply can't max effort launch a stock wheelbase Buell and keep it's nose down. But if you go for it launch it about 5-6K, slide the clutch while rolling into the gas as necessary to keep the front tire just off the ground. With the front tire off the ground you know all the weight is on the rear tire but any more than 3-6" is just wasted energy and tire rotation. Take all the preload out of your rear suspension, loosen up on the compression damping and tighten up on the rebound. That will help it squat and absorb some of the energy which helps with the front end. Good luck and go practice! |

Greetings People, Sknight, agree with your adjustment, but on the front, not the rear. My logic center dictates that as the bike squats in the rear, traction is improved (not needed on the R) because you are transferring load to the rear wheel, while raising the forward center of gravity in relation to the rear axle - the bike will stand up quick! I am constantly surprised my R keeps the front down as well as it does (considering the large amount of power available in combination with the shortness of its wheelbase), but have attributed that at least partially to the firmness of the rear suspension. I'm sure y'all will let me know if I'm off base here (wouldn't be the first time), but that's what I enjoy about this forum - it are educational!!! Regards |

1125rrrred is correct Sknight. I went to the drag strip last week with my brother (who rides an xb12s and kicked my a$$ to almost the 1/8th mile) and i was checking out the other bikes. some had "struts" in the rear, which is pretty much just a solid piece of metal, to stiffen up the rear end. they also pumped up the preload in the front for the purpose of eliminating momentum picking up the front wheel during launch. i need a lot more practice but i found Sknight is correct with the 5-6k rev and clutch slip. btw my best run was 11.5 at 120mph so i need help launching too =P |

I spent a lot of time during a past life very involved in drag racing, but if my word isn't good enough these came across during a short Google search. http://www.brockracing.com/forum/display_topic_thr eads.asp?ForumID=7&TopicID=8&PagePosition=1 http://www.gixxer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2042 94 Bottom line is you need to try different stuff, but when you see a bike with a rigid suspension it's usually stretched, lowered, front end strapped and nearly stiff. If you want a stock, high CG, short WB bike to hook and launch you've got to absorb initial energy and release it slowly. Too much pressure transferred from the suspension will shock the tire or loop the bike. Actual traction usually isn't an issue especially a Buell, the rider is basically sitting on the rear tire. |

Thanks for the insight. Ultimately I would like to do some passes out at Norwalk, but since I also intend to do track days at Nelsons Ledges and Mid Ohio, I have no intention of stretching the wheelbase. My Vette is so much easier, sidestep the clutch at 4k RPM, let her hook up, bury the loud pedal, and row through the gears. But what's life without a little challenge. |

search 'littlebutquick' who ran 9's with a stock wheelbase r. granted-the man is obviously an AMAZING rider,but he proves the 1125r will pull some VERY quick sixty foot times when the hands work well together. |

Not to detract from LBQ in any way but he does have an extended swingarm which will help quite a bit. I agree though - he is an amazing rider |

LBQ ran nines LAST year-stock wheelbase. This year with longer swingarm he is nearly halfway through the 9s |

I ran a 9.92et stock wheel base best 60ft 1.62 its all in the clutch launch low rpm get all your weight over the front dont use full throttle till 2nd gear look on you tube under littlebutquick 1125r challenged by craig jones to dragrace he was on his vrod and launched it full throttle |
