Just got back from vacation. Took my 1125R from Connecticut down to Virginia Beach, avoiding NYC and 95, I took rte 13 to the Chesapeake Bay bridge. Then down to Myrtle Beach for a couple days, took rte 17 the whole way. Not a bad ride, but it was 95 degrees and humid, leading to my questionable decision to mail my leather jacket home (along with some laundry).

Then headed out to Deal's Gap/Tail of the Dragon area, my first time there. What a blast! I stayed on rte 74, so I rode the Moonshiner28(also some nice riding) over to the Dragon and headed north up 129. Wow, was not really aware just how severe some of those corners are. Its a scenic area, but you need to keep your eyes on the road. Was feeling a bit naked without full leathers, never mind not even having a jacket. There was a rockslide closing down the road, where we had to turn around, but there was a big truck coming down the road, and the cop said we couldn't leave the turn-around until the truck got there, took a little over half an hour. By that time there was a line of about 40 bikes and a couple cars waiting. The pace speeds up south of rte 28, headed to the Cherohala Skyway, a fun, scenic ride. After sweating in the sun before it seemed chilly in the elevations of the Cherohala. By the time I got to rte 360 it was about 6:00, and with the loop closed the only way I knew to get back was to just turn around. I would have liked to see more, but I know I'll be going back. I'm going to the AMA race at VIR in August, maybe another day or two then. I'd definitely recommend it if you live in eastern US. I also took the Blue Ridge Parkway to Virginia, where I visited my brother. Total 2913 miles in a week, no problems, didn't even get that uncomfortable. Hell, with a comfort seat I may go cross-country

Glad you got to visit.

RT 28 is a beautiful road too, and doesn't have all the traffic of Deals Gap. If you're coming down from VIR, it's a nice way into the area.
