I went to leave the house the other day for work.....and got about 2 miles from the house, went to shift gears and my toe hit nothing! The little shifter lever had fallen off! I was able to turn around and get back home using my entire foot turned sideways to lift the entire shifter. I've gotten in the habit of putting loctite on everything I take off and put back on....but I hadn't had a reason to check that lever yet. So....does anybody know someone who sells just those little levers? Until I find something real, I'm going to rig up a bolt with some nuts and rubber over them. Anyway....the bigger problem....while looking at the shifter, I realized that my header support bracket on the front left of the bike (before the exhaust can) had broken at the weld. That sucks! I just had those headers high-temp powdercoated. Dang! Now I need to find new headers. Anybody got some S1 headers? Or...I can repair the ones I have. Still weighing my options. I'm sure someone else has experienced a cracked header bracket....how did you handle it? |

"i" go a step further and safety wire all the fasteners on my shift linkage and the toe 90 degree lever ... And as a back up there is a BLAST shift lever in my saddle sack ... Exhaust system assembly class 101 available upon request, just e-mail me(Ljenne73c@verizon.net) and a copy is yours ... |

wow, too weird - the exact same thing happened to me this past wednesday, on my s2. except i was in downtown dc, and had to get back to fredneck county md in rush hour - ~45 miles for me. i was able to manage using the edge of my boot's sole for upshifts; downshifts were not a problem. needless to say, i did not head straight home, i detoured to hd of fredneck, and they had one in stock that they sold me, along w/a locknut, for $11 & change. they even loaned me an allen wrench and socket to install it. (the socket wouldn't fit behind the lever and the engine case, so i used my leatherman for this.) the threaded end of the shaft has loctite already applied... when my stock hedders experienced that failure several years back, it was a good excuse to buy the race kit... fortunately, i have not had any issues w/it. the upgrade "y" attachment support bracket may play a part in that... doug s. |

Yeah, once I realized the lever was missing I didn't have any trouble shifting. It was just kind of awkward at first. I may rig up my bike with a nut and then ride to HD tomorrow and see what they have. On the headers....I might upgrade too. |

The toe peg itself is about $5 and screws right into the lever. At least on an X1. Not sure why you needed any tools for putting it in. Maybe you're talking about the lever and $11 sounds pretty cheap for that... |

Here's my solution for my missing foot peg.
It's been on for 7 years now. Allan bolt, knurled aluminum sleeve and a nylock nut. Oh, and some blue loctite. (Message edited by 5liter on May 07, 2010) |

on the s2, the shifter toe peg does not screw into the lever, it passes all the way through it, and you need a (lock)nut on its backside to secure it. doug s. |
