Long story short...my battery died. I thought It was a problem with my stator and all that $hit but the truth is in the city it's hard to get the rpm's high enough when I'm going from stop sign to stop sign and the speed limit is 25mph. I drive as a profession so I really don't wanna get any unwanted tickets which is how my battery died... Did that take to long to xplain?

And what is the rpm(?) level where the battery starts to charge anyway????

5000 seems to be a popular number.

2,000 RPMs for 20 minutes is what it take to put back the discharge from one start.

For what its worth, with my battery light on and the engine off, I can thumb the starter and a few seconds later at idle it goes off. The higher RPM you are running, the more power you are generating. You should be fine and charging as long as you are cruising.

Your battery shouldn't die as long as your engine is running.

25mph could be a problem, specially since the thing will do 58mph in first gear

The highest I hit in first gear was 63-65mph

Who can look at the speedo in first gear at 60mph?

60.9MPH is redline in first gear on a CR.

> 60.9MPH is redline in first gear on a CR.

Morning Mind bender: Isn't it possible to exceed the bike's red line speed in a given gear, particularly lower ones, by clutching at just the right moment?

If you are accelerating at a given rate, it takes a bit for that acceleration to come back to 0 and begin deceleration. If the bike pulls hard enough near red line and you clutch it just right, you would actually continue to accelerate to just above the maximum speed possible in that given gear, right?

Acceleration stops the moment the throttle is closed. There is no "I'm accelerating so hard that if I let off at the right moment before shifting, the bike will pick up a couple of mph before I open the throttle again".

Road and Track magazine posts time and speed graphs so you can see exactly how long it took a car to get to a given speed as well as see where the shift points are. When a manual transmission car is shifted, there is a tiny but noticeable dip in the speed. I suppose they could minimize that dip if they didn't lift when shifting and were extremely quick with the shifter, but it would still be there.

Back on topic, I've never had any charging problems with my '08 R so I can't comment. I haven't so much as had the battery light come on while the bike is running. (I did have it come on once when the key was on but the bike off while I was playing with ECM Spy.) I am going to the Blessing of the Bikes on Sunday and if it's anything like it was two years ago, there will be several miles of stop and inch forward (not stop and go) traffic on the way there, so if my battery or charging system are going to act up, this will be the time.
