I'm confused here as to why everyone uses NGK iridiums for XB12's. I just put a pair in myself when my stockers failed. Why not copper? Iridium --------- Pros: Strongest spark, least voltage required. Cons: sharp point, hot spot for preignition. less heat dissipation, . Cost. Copper --------- Pros: Cheap, wider tips prevent hot spots for preignition. Greater heat dissipation due to material properties. Cons: Weaker spark, requires more energy. So, being that we replace spark plugs often, and have detonation and heat problems, aren't we perfect candidates for copper plugs? My car forum swore by them, as we had a supercharged application with major detonation issues as well. Iridiums caused major knock retard, copper worked magic. So, any thoughts? Also, can anyone rattle off part numbers for copper plugs, as I'd like to try them. Stock heat range, or 1 step colder. (Message edited by paniller on April 22, 2010) |
