My bike came used with the custom cut blankets on it.not sure who made them.

When I put the comfort kit on, I left the front blanket in place (which covered the area of the heat problem at seat/frame junction).

still, the foam made a big difference.

The foam definitely helped but the frame still gets a really hot. The bike came with the comfort kit but I don't know if the reflash had been done. If the fan isn't running while the bike is moving (I can't hear it over the wind noise) that would tend to hold the heat in so I'll have to talk to Iron Valley H-D tomorrow to see if it was done. It was a demo that the owner rode so they should have the records. It was only in the upper 70s on my way home tonight and it made more crackling noise cooling down than the firebolt ever did in the dead of summer.

tonight I had some time to play.

I took the air box cover off. I took some aluminum flashing pieces and cut and bent them so they covered most of the frame hole on the RS, and tucked inside the frame rail. I held this heat shield on with aluminum tape. But there was no way to tape the bottom inside the frame short of pulling the engine.

Then I figured I might as well put my heat blanket front 1/2 back on. I slid it between the piece of flashing and frame. (This might have just caused a major air leak in the heat shield I just made?).

I put the seat back on, and you can still see the white blanket through the seat/frame gap. So I started digging.

I found this weather strip I had laying around. It is made of rubber that is in an O shape, hollow and measures around 1/2". one side is flat with adhesive on it. I mounted this to the frame where the seat gap is. Put seat on and it filled the gap perfect.

but I did not take it out and ride it.

This foam weather strip is actually used as a seal on a slide-out on a large RV.

Bueller...Mama just measured my fat pecs tonight so I am making progress toward my mesh outfit. Thanks for the tip. (Can I still get a tan through the mesh?) Billyo...if the fan shuts off when you stop at the lights (most all the time) you have the flash. Otherwise it runs at the lights.

What does the comfort kit consist of?

http://www.buell.com/en_us/gear/accessories/produc t.asp?Menu_ID=2&ProductLineID=2&CategoryID=5&Produ ctID=10029

The kit consists of a new, larger right side air scoop that funnels more air to the rear cylinder, a heat shield for the rear exhaust pipe, and an underseat air "duct" that forces hot air exiting the cooling fan to go down around the shock rather than upwards against the bottom of the seat and out of the openings below the seat on either side.

So, how does everyone rate the kit?

I have a dealer local that has a kit in stock and I was thinking of going and getting it.

Should I? Does it make that big of a difference?

Slowride - prepare for several different answers to those questions:

Thanks for the link Tocino, I went ahead and picked up the Comfort Kit. I guess I will install in this weekend and see how it does on the bike.

No prob - I installed mine last weekend. As the various other posters said, it's kind of a pain to get some bolts lined up when reinstalling the seat pan / battery box, but nothing heinous. You'll need to torx tool in the tool kit that came with the bike. My bike came with the latest ECU flash so that's one step I didn't have to do (although it's up to you if you want to have that done)

So...Just to be Clear
The Re-Flash has no new fuel mapping?
The Re-Flash will only change the Running of the fan?
Do I have this Right?
Thanks...Thinking real hard about getting the re-flash 08XT.

The only difference between the fan reflash and the last one before it is the fan control patterns. If you have an even older flash, there may be other changes including mapping.

The re-flash I got right before the comfort kit one became available fixed my surging below 4,000 rpm on my '08 XT, so there was definitely a fuel mapping change on the one immediately previous to the comfort kit flash.

Micah, it makes a world of difference on any day above 80F degrees. I think you will see a few of those where you live. Prior to '08 no re-flash. It would not be necessary anyway. It cools the seat and right leg so much over stock. You will like it.

Pulling the under seat pan is not necessary and there is no need to remove or even loosen the front ECM bolt, if you do you just lost at least twenty minutes. Just do what is needed to take out the metal frame work in the front of the tray. Put a ratchet strap(as long as it is warm out) hook in the loop part of the shock cover back to the seat latch, and gently ratchet it back about an inch and a half.

Wrestle for about five minutes with the upper shock cover seal unit from the kit, get it on the correct side of the shock adjuster tube and it should be in place.

When placing the clamps on the exhaust pipe do not get them too close to the tank at the back. If it is you will get vibrations through the bike like having a bad motor mount.

Everything else was easy. All very worth while.

Vern, you the man! I appreciate the play by play as well as the Tennessee engineering. I will engage the install in the morn.

Just a comment. My fan was a bit noisy from day one and I used the installation of the comfort kit to replace the fan. If you have any concerns about your fan then this would be a good time to make a replacement.

You have to get the dealer to do the flash update.

Ford, I would like to buy just the front piece of the 2 piece Uly maximum seat barrier. Do you know if it is available separately and if so, the price? Thanks!
